My little girl, Esther, just woke up crying. He leg is hurting her again. Almost every night, she goes to be with leg pains. I don't think she is faking it, either. She often complains about leg pains, and our doctor has not found out why she is having he pains. Pray that she gets a good night's sleep.

They are probably just growing pains. My girls have all had there share of them and they seemed to begin around age 3 or 4. Hers may be at night because most of a childs growing occurs while sleeping. Any hoo, praying she gets enough sleep and feels better soon.

Hi Trent, :Green

I don't claim to be a know-it-all nutritionist, or even want to appear that way, but may I make a statement and a question::::::::

We know that young growing bodies require lots of vitamins and minerals, especially zinc and calcium, as well as proteins. We also know that milk may be high in protein but the calcium content is grossly over-rated. The only sure way to get lots of calcium in the diet is with fresh leafy dark-green veggies. E.G. Spinach, Romaine lettuce, Endive, Dandelion greens, Beet greens, etc.

Now the question::::

What would you think of the idea of having fresh green salads at least twice daily?

I also think the pains may be growing pains.

Ginny kept complaining about her leg hurting, several years ago (she's 10 now). I think she was about 4. They did an x-ray and discovered she had an infection in the bone. They did surgery to insert catheter in her arm than ran up the artery to right above her heart, then for the next month we had to inject a series of fluids 3 times a day so the antibiotics would go directly to her heart. The fluids had to be kept refrigerated, so when we injected them we had to do it very slowly so the tempurature change wouldn't be too drastic. She would immediately let us know if we were injecting it too fast, because it would hurt her. the medicine worked and the pain went away.

When our son was younger, he experienced growing pains, and this is what it sounded like. My hubby would take rubbing alcohol and put some in his hand and rub the sore legs for a few minutes. It actually worked. That may be something to try, and if it doesn't help (along with the fresh greens PE recommended), maybe it would be a good idea to get it checked out. But children do go through growing pains. And if that is what this is, she's getting ready for a growing spurt.

Esther is an avid salad eater! She just devours her salads we give her.

Just to start this off right, I am not poo-pooing anyone on here - that said, I'll continue.

Esther's pains in her legs started quite some time ago, and we took her to the doctor and they did x-rays and found nothing abnormal. We were told that if they continued to see a specialist (we just need to wait for the money for that one). She often tells us that her legs hurt during the day. I think it is just more noticeable at night because she is lying in bed with nothing else to occupy her mind so she is more aware of the pain. We (my wife and I) think that she might be in pain a lot more than she tells us. When it gets too bad, then she tells us. We tell her to let us know before the pains gets too bad so we can give her medicine to help.

I am not saying that there is no way these pains are not growing pains. I grew up with growing pains so severe that I could not walk. I would just sit down and cry.

Anyway - thanks for your prayers and comments. Tonight, she went to bed with no complaints about pain! :clap:

My girls always say their legs hurt when they are overtired. As for the growing pain thing, My oldest gets to the point where she can't walk sometimes too. I have also found that lack of potassium(sp) can be a cause. Leg cramping can also be a sign of serious illness, so if they continue, ask for a simple blood test to see if her counts are normal before going to a specialist. It will cost less I'm sure. :wink

All good ideas. My son was just complaining last night that his knee hurts, has complained on and off for at least a week about his knee or leg....I remember my oldest doing the same thing...I think growing pains. Especially if you had bad growing pains as a kid, it would be genetic.

Good idea about the blood count test though.

Maybe try some black cherry juice...if it works, that would point to the possibility of arthritis or something in that vein.

Glad she didn't complain of pain last night...hope it was gone!
