It's been a while since I've posted, but I suppose it's time to get back involved. Matter of fact, last time I posted, I wasn't in the ministry yet. ?

I'm the administrative pastor (not that title matters to me) of my local IFB church. Some would call me the associate pastor. All I know is I am an assistant pastor. I suppose it could be said we are in a luxurious spot for paying staff. There's the pastor, me, children's pastor, congregational care pastor being paid as pastoral staff. There's also the music director and media director. All of these positions receive pay. My pastor took less than his predecessor, on purpose, and I did the same thing with my predecessor, also on purpose. We vote on a budget each year, with the staff salary lumped into one portion of the budget. We support 157 missionaries. We are very frugal with our money, even more so with our present pastor.

Some of you would be familiar with our previous pastor. I loved that guy to death. He is the reason I am in the ministry, essentially; however, he had a larger portion dedicated to staff. It really boils down to the congregation/deacons/pastor as to who gets paid what, etc. etc. Some have rightly pointed out the beauty of being independent.

Thank you for sharing this information. Truth is, I never heard of this position pastor.

(congregational care pastor).

I believe in some cases, it’s not the pastor. The church leaders, they are the ones that percent theses packages. The pastor, will never say, you are paying me too much. I probably wouldn’t either.

From my experience you will never hear that.

I've been to one church where after the pastor got paid there was nothing left for anything including missions. And another essentially was a part-time pastor because he didn't get all that he wanted.

That's pretty though, but does happens. I believe a pastor can work and preach. Many get paid full-time but only work part-time. Or just a few days in the week. If the members support this? That is just fine. There is fraud going on in some churches, that between them and God. Like not paying taxes, like we all should be paying, when not as a church issue. Like paying the pastor mortgage and not reporting it like an income. We can fool man,but we can't fool God.

I have been a member of two different churches where the pastor has asked for a cut in or a suspension of their pay. So, TGL, your statement is very much in error. One was in Wisconsin, and the other was in Georgia.

Last month our Pastor took a voluntary cut in pay. We had previously been able to save up enough to replace the roof on the building, it was over $18.000 just for material. The actual installation was done by some of a sister churches members as well as some of out own.

But in the last couple of months we have lost members due to deaths, so the offerings suffered. We had to buckle down and cut expenses and even mission support temporarily. Our Pastor volunteered to take a temporary cut in pay as a means of helping out.

A true, God called Pastor will do whatever it takes to allow his church to function as it should. Just because he took a cut in pay didn't mean he worked any less, his ministry still went on as before. Many members and others looking on from the outside, never realize just how much work it takes to properly pastor a church. There is so much more than just what is seen by others that the list is too long to list out.

I have had opportunity to fill the pulpit in two  different churches I have been a member of, one time it was between pastors and I filled in for a whole four months. If you ever have the opportunity to do this, you will get a birds eye view of just how much work is involved.

Even some of the lesser functions in a church may take a lot more time than anyone else realizes. I teach adult Sunday School classes every week in our church, this is an unpaid ministry. I spend a lot of time in research and preparation for just one Sunday School class, not even counting the time it takes to present the lesson. As far as time in preparation goes, I am not talking about hours spent, I am talking about days.

I'll like to see a photo of the new roof. Is it metal

Ys, the new roof is metal. It is designed to shed snow before it gets too deep. You don't want a deep pile of heavy snow sliding off onto someone.

I don't know if anyone took pictures of the new roof, if I find some I will post them.
