Good posts Cowboy :thumb

Good points by you too Suzy :thumb Had the Justices determined the 2nd Amendment only applied to "organized militias", as in official ones such as the National Guard, and didn't pertain to individuals the door would have been tossed wide open to those who would like to remove guns from citizens.

All I am saying is the doors were already opened... they shut them a bit. Which is great.

Its just a tad unnerving, that all Obama has to do is replace a justice or two and then it will be all over....

My whole thing with this ruling is I'm glad it passed like it did, but I'm not excited that it didn't pass by a greater margin.

Unalienable and inalienable have the same definition in law. It has been well defined for a long time, it doesn't just apply to alienated, it also applies to being non transferable "Adj. 1. unalienable - incapable of being repudiated or transferred to another", it also means "Not to be separated, given away, or taken away; inalienable" and it was well defined by multiple court case as meaning non-taxable. People v. Berberrich, McCartee v. Orphan Asylum Soc., People v. Toynbee, Morrison v. State, BUDD v. PEOPLE OF STATE OF NEW YORK, BUTCHERS' UNION CO. v. CRESCENT CITY CO., VANHORNE'S LESSEE v. DORRANCE, SANDIN v. CONNER, BUTLER v. COM. OF PENNSYLVANIA, U S v. CRUIKSHANK, if you'd like some more reading just let me know.

Ok, so are you saying that owning a gun is not taxable according to the constitution? What about when you buy a gun? If you buy it from a store you must pay sales tax. Is this not unconstitutional?? It is paying a tax in order to own that gun! I agree with your definition of not seperated or given away. I still do not agree with the meaning of taxable. Expecialy from your "A lien" it is alien not a lien. You cannot pull a few letters out of a word and give it a new deffinition to fit what you believe. As for the courts that you say agree that it is tax, what if this ruleing was 5-4 the other way??? Would you then be saying that was what the constitution was saying, or would you be saying how bad of a decision it was??? I would hope the later!!! But in this (among other things) you are doing the same exact thing we talk about liberal judges doing. Taking a ruling and twisting it to make a word or phrase have a brand new meaning that it's author never intended. That is one of the great problems today in our nation, to much looking to scotus. One judge says that blue means red, and every one starts calling red blue. What does the word unalienable actualy mean?? That it is a right that cannot be taken away. Well, now I have ranted. And everyone can talk about how dumb I am, lol. But that is what I believe.

I agree, it is very scarry to think of what all will be going down the drain (as far as our freedom) if Obama wins. The very fabric of our constitution could be shredded into pieces. When they get through we will be expected to believe that since scotus says that this is what the constitution says, that is what our forfathers meant when they wrote it. But, I do not believe we have or will loose any of our freedoms!!! Many will disagree with that statement if they do not understand what I mean. We, as a nation, have not lost nor will we loose any freedoms!! If I have a 10 dollar bill, and I give it to you, and later want to pull it out of my pocket, have I lost that 10??? No, I gave it away. When we as a nation put men in office that we know are going to go against the constitution, we might as well shred it ourselves. We have given away our freedom.

First I didn't give it that definition the contemporaries of the writer(s) gave it that definition and the courts have so far upheld that definition, second there is taxation written right into the constitution, you should read the whole thing and then re-examine the issue of taxes and rights. There are some taxes that are just and lawful and there are some that are not.

Its a valid concern. Fortunately Alito, Roberts and Thomas are young (very young). Scalia is a concern, but at 72 he should have no problem lasting 8 years. If Obama wins, I would expect Stevens to retire during an Obama presidency... and they don't come more liberal then that, so no great shift there. Kennedy, who is very often the swing judge is about he same age as Scalia, so I do not think he is going anywhere. The liberal judges (Souter, Ginsberg, and Breyer) are older, but not by much. I do NOT expect the SCOTUS to look much different in 8 years.

Now the district courts are another story.

We were one vote away from losing the rights to own a gun. That is scary.

If Obama is our next president, and he appoints supreme court justice, that will completely change and if it comes up again we will lose the rights to own guns.

Cowboy is absolutely correct on one thing, we are slowly losing our rights, one at a time over a long period of time and few there be that realizes this.

Actually right now the honest law abiding citizen has to go thru 3rd degree to buy a gun and he or she cannot have it with them unless they have the proper paper work. This in itself strips us of our rights to protect and defend ourself and our property.

And we know the criminals will do as they please no matter what law is passed.

That is the problem Jerry! What these Liberals don't undertand is that we "law abiding" citizens are left at the mercy of these criminals. :thumbdown Criminals are going to do what they want, no matter what...they are criminals after all. They don't abide by the laws...so, why would they start now? :uuhm: they won't! I really wish they never took the show "Jericho" off the air. It was replaced for...or course, yet, another reality TV show. :roll "Jericho" was a show that made us think...of course, they don't want us to think in this world. That would be giving us way too many freedoms. Keep the world blinded...is what the goal is by these people. My 17 year old son, and I loved "Jericho" and looked forward to watching it for the few short weeks...it aired the past 2 seasons.

One thing we should remember is just how many of the bad judges were appointed by Republicans. Remember the Republican appointed judges who helped make abortion a "woman's right"?

Our hope can't be in the next president or which Party places the next Justice or two on the Supreme Court because none of these can be trusted. We must place our trust in God and pray accordingly.
