In August 2007' date=' a woman working at the CDC sought help from Walden, a counselor at [Computer Sciences Corp.'] which operated a counseling service under the federal agency's employee assistance program, regarding a same-sex relationship.

"Walden explained that the client's needs would conflict with her religious beliefs and that, therefore, it would be unfair for her to serve as the woman's counselor. As a result, Walden referred the individual to a colleague," the law firm said. "After the meeting with the client, Walden's colleague told her that she had done 'the right thing' by referring the woman to him."

However, it apparently was not enough that her counseling needs were addressed, because the lesbian complained about Walden, alleging the Christian counselor was "homophobic."

The lesbian, who was counseled by Walden's colleague, Ken Cook, told Walden's supervisor, Gordon Hughes, Walden should not be employed because of her beliefs and asked to file a formal complaint against her.

Walden explained the conflict between the woman's desire for furthering a same-sex relationship and her Christian beliefs and that that was the reason for her referral. She confirmed she had counseled other individuals involved in same-sex relationships for various reasons without complications when their issues did not conflict with her religious principles.

"Following this incident, Ms. Walden endured religiously based questioning from her CSC supervisors including Mr. Hughes. Mr. Hughes asked Ms. Walden why she told [the lesbian employee] about her religiously based conflict; he told Ms. Walden that if a similar situation arose in the future, Ms. Walden should tell the client something else ? for example, that she was not experienced in relationship counseling ? instead of discussing her religiously based conflict," the lawsuit said.

Walden responded that it would be inappropriate to misrepresent her conflicts.

My wife says the Christian woman should have just refered her to another counselor and not said why. I disagreed, saying we Christians are sacrificing too many freedoms to people who we know, ultimately want to eradicate Christianity. My wife, however, said that it's more important to keep your job and not cause trouble.

The Alliance Defense Fund is assisting the woman in filing suit against the CDC and Computer Sciences Corp..

I highly disagree with your wife. :lol The lesbian would probably figure it out anyway and then there would be even more trouble becasue she lied or was silent about why.

We should always stand up boldy for Christ and trust God to keep His promise to provide all our needs.

God is more than able to protect our jobs or to provide us with another job.

I think I would have done the same thing that this woman did. I would have also cited the state's religious harrassment laws to my employer to let him know that I had good standing to do what I did. The problem was taken care of with another counselor, so firing the Christian could have had some real bad feedback on the employer...and I'm sure that's why he didn't fire her. Although Christianity is frowned upon, this type of stuff can still be cited as harrassment.

The woman was fired. Rad the article linked in the initial post.

Sorry, I did read the article. I guess I skipped over the part where she was fired! But I still think she did the right thing. And I hope they get the company! That would set a good precedent.
