I was asked to play at a wedding, "Blessed Assurance" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". No problem, basically major chords. Then at the last minute she asks me to play a song I've never played before, written in F. I hate to play in F. Transposing it to D right now. Pray for me.  The wedding is Saturday.

"drippy and sappy" haha

When playing in D, I prefer altering the bass fingering on some of the chords a wee bit and playing in drop D. I mute the low E string on some chords like G's and change it altogether on Em.  It's just an instrumental, so I shouldn't need to capo to suit any singers. But If they change their mind that won't be a problem.

Do I foresee a Webb Family youtube video of the song in the near future?  LoL

The song blends wedding vows with snippets of Scripture, which I like.

sadly, many do not hold true to their vows to "have and to hold til death do us part."  Or, are they the walking dead?  LoL

Sadly, the time has passed and the Webb Family is no longer a band, but it was fun while it lasted.

I have performed other "secular" love songs at weddings before and although I didn't listen to all of it, this one seems to be good..

. IMO, wedding vows should include such things found in Malachi 2:16, Ephesians 5:21-33, 1 Corinthians 7:2-5, and 1 Peter Chapter 3.

Those things would keep a lot more homes together and happy.

The only secular song that comes to mind off-hand I really liked was Holly Dunn's "Daddy's Hands".

If I recall, she originally wrote it as a poem to her dad but her family told her to record it on an album.

Here are the lyrics to the song,...

I will pledge my heart
To the love we share
Through the good and the bad times too
I'll forsake my rest
For your happiness
'Til my death I will stand by you

With God as my witness
This vow I will make
To have and to hold you
No other to take
For rich or for poor
Under skies grey or blue
'Til my death I will stand by you

There are wars and there are rumors
Of wars yet to come
Temptations we'll have to walk through
Though others may tremble
I will not run
'Til my death I will stand by you

I will put on the armor of faithfulness
To fight for a heart that is true
'Til the battle is won, I will not rest
'Til my death I will stand by you

With God as my witness
This vow I will make
To have and to hold you
No other to take
For rich or for poor
Under skies grey or blue
'Til my death I will stand by you

'Til the battle is won
I will not run
'Til my death I will stand by you
