I think all three fora I now visit have the option to put people on an "ignore list".

My personal view?

I think it is incredibly childish.

If you are not mature enough to simply ignore someone who you don't get on with, or their comments affect you so deeply that it causes you genuine grief, then maybe you should not visit fora at all.

It just sounds like a primary school playground.
And it happens on all 3 fora I visit, so it is a general observation and comment.

Dave,

Ignore list are a great way for you can create your own virtual gathering with those of like ideas and fuzz out those who you don't have like mindedness too.  though we are to be of like mindedness to some extent.

I usually use an ignore list for a few days then remove people off of it to give them the benefit of any doubt.  I used it with a few this last week just to keep my heart in check.

It is very hard to get a full understanding of people and their emotions via the written text as we lose the body language, eye to eye contact, intonation of speech and gender.  These are all part of communication and in this type of format you lose a good portion of what helps in understanding communications.

It is difficult especially if the person is using colored text (as color sometimes represent the tonality) while some use it just to separate their text from a previous.  Others use it to a fault and it usually gets tiring to read through that.   I would prefer to use quotations and my answer outside the quotations.  There was a Baptist site I wanted to join and the reason I didn't was because they were using a lot of black with blue text which just kills your eyes after about 3 minutes.

Then there are those mix CAPS and colors and text size and it really get crazy trying to figure out what their tude and volume is form confusing those three altogether one top of what they are writing.

Anyway, ignore lists are beneficial.  You always have the benefit of un-ignoring the person later.

By the way, what is "fora"?
