Demon Possession: The New Confession Of Modern Youth

Demon possession and influence, and other matters we've discussed here seem to be rather common in certain areas of the world.

 

In the Western world we've mostly decided to explain such away so even when it's encountered we tag some psychological term to it or otherwise explain it away.

 

Nobody here, other than yourself (wretched) has cited "crazy preacher ladies". No one has said the stuff the RCC or extremist Charismatics talk about these things is a source.

 

Testimonies from Baptist missionaries (as well as some other missionaries) in various parts of the world attest to these things occurring.

 

I don't see demons around every corner, and nobody else here seems to be hinting at such, and I doubt any here believe there is a "demon of sneezing" or a "demon of broken toasters", but there is demonic influence going on and the Enemy seeks opportunity to attack and destroy us. If this were not so several verses, even whole passages, in Scripture would be pointless; and worse would appear to be a lie if they are not speaking of something true.

These verses are an account of a demon possessed person, the demon leaves the lost person who probably was a very evil man, the man was lost and in the demons mind he will remain in his evil condition until he enters hell at death. therefore he exits the person and prowls around looking for other victims he can deceive into hell. whatever area the demon was canvassing  was '' dry " no water, this figure of speech was illustrating that there were no good candidates for him to indwell. the" Rest" he was seeking was not that of inactivity but the rest and peace he would have in keeping people away from Jesus Christ whom he hated' one must remember that that these are fallen angles that had followed their god Satan and have the death sentence of eternal damnation in the lake of fire.Matthew 25:41 Then shall I say unto them on the left hand, depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire,prepared for the devil and his angels. After some time had passed the demon decides to return an check out the person he had abandoned he found that this person had completely changed his life from the evil person he had been. the demon observed three things .1. the man was "Empty " he was unoccupied with no Holly Spirit and still lost .2. he was found "swept" clean .he had a made complete change. 3. he appeared "garnished" he dress himself up and modeled what a christian should be ,he loved the attention he was getting from others as his pride swelled like a balloon. In Gods eyes he was just another lost person gloating in his self-righteousness . after seeing the change of this man from evil to a model citizen the demon was not going to take the chance that this man could also in the future with a christian's help he could change his self-righteousness for the righteousness of Jesus Christ. the demon leaves and finds seven more demons more wicked than himself and tells them they could not risk losing one of Satan's children to Jesus Christ so they all decide to indwell the man to make sure he never believes the truth.John 14:6 "I am the way the truth,and the life: no man cometh unto the father , but by me. the demons will do everything within their power to keep him from being witnessed to by a christian .they keep his mind saturated with how good he is ,how many friends he has, how many people respect him until he enters hell after his last heart beat. the demons will shout with joy as they hear another one of their victims screaming from hell. today people can still be demon possessed just a Jesus teaches here in Matthew 12:43-45  and these demons have many other ways they work  nonstop to try and prevent the lost from being saved. demons can influence a christian and put thoughts into your mind ,as well use lost people to attempt to control your life in opposition to Gods will. " we should choose our friends wisely". Romans 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren,mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned ; and avoid them. now no christian can be indwelt by a demon ,or demons ' Your body is the temple  off the Holly Spirit .Christians are sealed by the Holly Spirit , and the Holly Spirit is greater than any demon.

A helpful post, EKS, but does that Scripture prove demon possession continues in the New Covenant age? ("dispensation")

Certainly demon possession was evident in Jesus' ministry, & is recorded in Acts, duting the Apostolic period. Every aspect of the old covenant passed with the passing of "this generation" (Mat. 24) so the spiritual situation changed radically with the destruction of the temple & Jerusalem, and the whole system of OC worship.

 

Are there indications in the NT that Jesus' finished work would mean that after the transitional period of 40 years, the signs given specifically to speak to Israel for conversion or condemnation would cease? 1 Cor. 14, quoting Isaiah, indicates that the signs were for Israel, and would cease. (1 Cor. 13)

Covenantor, the only thing I would say is that, while I agree that the sign gifts have ceased, the sign as far as demon possession is concerned would have been the miraculous ceasing of the possession.
As I previously suggested, the comparison would be like saying there is no sickness any more because miraculous healing has ceased.

I think that there are indications that possession in Jesus' time was a known and understood thing - it doesn't appear to have started with Jesus' time. IF that is the case, there would be little reason to suggest it ceased after his time.

Thanks for the post (http:///ux.indystar.c....ammons/48932553/ ) Standing firm in Christ '  what was very interesting and caught my attention was  the use of mysticism with use of oils and salt to ward of the evil spirits (occult practices).I'm in question about the lady that said she was protected from this happening to her. it appears that she may be in a satanic occult and brought this upon her family by bringing it into their home. rendering them incapable to fight against these demonic powers because of their lost condition ( if they had been saved this would not have happened ) was this event exaggerated no.  Satan loves to exercise his power to exalt himself and use his devils to deceive the lost to believe in this supernatural exorcism which is contrary to the word of God. this is another example of Satan's work to try and deceive the lost from ever getting saved .just as he uses Marlin Mason whom is demon possessed to blaspheme the name of the Lord Jesus and our Father at his concerts leading the lost straight to hell with him.again brother thanks for putting this up. This type of clown circle nonsense is not satan's way. Most of the world considers manson and the like with their fans foolish misfits. the devil doesn't promote or use this at all IMO. As a matter of fact, I believe his hates it. It gives him bad press.

satan is an angel of light on earth, distracting the masses with subtle nuances of humanism, sex, live and let live, booze, rec drugs, false gospels, feel good religions, etc.

Thats how he leads by far the most into hell. Not this goofy nonsense.

Hey wretched - I don't think Satan hates it.
He likes anything that keeps people from God, and that does.

I don't think these guys are necessarily possessed though - many are just enjoying the wickedness of sin and profiting by it.

But Satan absolutely uses the other methods you describe as well.

I think that in general people give Satan too much credit - much of what we see today is the natural result of sin in the world, and the wickedness of men's hearts.

 16  They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;
 17  That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?

I feel like these questions are asked almost with incredulity - almost with surprise, in that we will see Satan in comparison to God and we will wonder how such a pitiful creature could cause so much trouble when his opponent, the Almighty God, is on our side.

That is not to minimise his power in comparison to us of course, but we trust in God ...who can be against us? (Rom 8:31)

Wretched ; It's kind of odd that you think this way , there have been many of times that christian"s have stood out side his concerts as witnesses against the evil that he supports .he is a worker and a follower of the Satanic church in which he loves. have you ever seen what goes on at his concerts how he stands behind an alter and rips the bible apart" Gods Holly word" while singing Jesus is gonna loose the battle,Jesus is dead.he promotes his hate for God and his love for Satan. and also those foolish misfits are lost souls whom our Lord Jesus died for and he don't see them as misfits because he loves them and wants them to come to him and be saved.  I also stated that It was one of Satan's ways of deceiving the lost and not the only way.  the principal here is about the lost no matter how we may see it and if we don't join the battle just as christian's have at Masons concerts witnessing to the lost and just as the missionary or the pastor or the hard working witness has fought the same battle there will be millions of lost sinners that will spend eternity in the lake of fire. we are not of this world .we are to expose the many lies of Satan and be a witness to the lost so that they may turn to Jesus as their savior and be saved. My Bible tells me that satan cannot cast out satan. I don't for a minute believe that that Roman Catholic Priest exorcised any demons. If there were any demons in the first place, they are still with the family, only dormant.

One cannot cast out demons through occult rithals such as putting the name of a demon in an envelope and burning the envelope and then burning the ashes. That is just pure nonsense.

As a point of inquiry, how do you simultaneously believe in Satan's influence and activity in the world and deny demonic activity? Influence through sinful things as you mentioned in post #2 necessarily requires direct influence to the person or people exhibiting the influencing behavior. If, according to what you said earlier, the Holy Spirit restrains demons from influencing and possessing why would He not do the same to Satan, who is himself a demon? I guess I just don't understand your overall view on the activity of demons and angels in the world.
