Oh, why thank you TheSword.  I am glad you pointed out my error. :icon_rolleyes:

I didn't intend to be unkind, and I'm sorry if it came across that way. However, it hurts your argument and using false information (or a false assumption) to support a Biblical position is counterproductive. You can't really make an assertion like that without knowing whether it's true or not. It is simply unwise and leads to bad interpretation of Scripture. I believe in accuracy of facts so that Biblical truth is not conflated or misused. However, if you'd prefer I not point this kind of stuff out in your posts, I can certainly oblige in the interest of Christian love.

Not a problem, TheSword.  Your post was the first thing I saw this morning, and I hadn't had my cup of java yet.  I get sarcastic if I don't have coffee in the morning before I speak to the outside world.

Boy do I understand that one...I tend to get a little snippy before morning coffee. I try to have at least one cup before my wife gets up (or shortly after) so I don't stick my foot in my mouth. Fortunately, she loves and tolerates me anyway.

Great, Holy Ghost directed service today followed by a very good Sunday school where I had a donut and large cup of coffee!

During the past 45 years we have moved about every 5 years; mostly due to my military service. I've visited numerous churches (50+) while looking for a 'home' church and never encounter one that had their regular service before the sunday school. Is this becoming more frequent????? Or does this apply to churches which have an early service (ie; 9 am)?

Coffee plants first grew wild in East Africa and Arabia. Around the year 850, according to an Arab legend, a young goat- herd was tending his flock when he noticed that his goats began acting excitedly after they ate the berries of a certain shrub. The goatherd sampled the berries himself and liked the taste. Coffee soon became popular throughout Arabia, and finally spread to Europe during the 16th and 17th centuries.

Prior to 1000 AD. Galla tribe in Ethiopia realize that they get an energy high from eating ground up coffee cherry.  This tasty snack was a far cry from your traditional modern brew:  They would roll up cherry grinds with animal fat into little pasty energy balls, useful for a bit of buzz before a big battle or long march.

THE HISTORY OF COFFEE

I expect it goes back further than we expect, & when it started being wrote about there had been people eating & or drinking it for many years. I do believe it goes back much further than the 13 to 14 century.

I'm on my 2nd cup when I check the computer for the first time in the morning. I have my first cup with, or right after my morning Bible reading.

Our church has two morning services, the "early service" at 8, followed by Sunday school and then the "regular service" at 10:30. Actually both services are close to equally attended these days, with later service having just a few more in attendance.

We started the 8:00 services years ago because of so many in our congregation that worked 3rd shift Saturday nights. This way they could attend church while they were still keyed up from work and before having time to wind down and fall asleep before the 10:30 service.

I once visited a 'church' which had some unusual things going on in their lobby and they served coffee. I was helping my son find a church, we didn't go back.

When in Aurora, Co in 1977 I went to  Baptist church that was beyond capacity for their building and therefore had a service before SS and another after (similar to a school on double sessions)

No, I believe there are other forces in the air behind movement toward a 3-ring circus. I believe it would be a matter of prayer and study for me to come right out and condemn the practice. I'll continue to have my coffee at home and my corporate worship just that. No anger or animosity intended/engendered here, I hope.

Where it happens most often is Methodist Churches, the preacher will preach at more than one church, some up to 3 in one morning, so some of them will have preaching before Sunday school.

For instants, The local United Methodist in town the pastor will first preach to a small church in the country them drive back to his church & preach. And after he has preached then they will have Sunday school.

I found this on that site. "the music is current and upbeat, and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly."

Many different things do happen in different Baptist Churches, that's for sure.

That's how our local Methodist churches are. The pastor preaches at three different churches each Sunday morning. The church service times have been set to allow him time to drive between the churches and fit all three in during the morning.

I do the same thing. Wake, start the coffee brewing, pray, read and drink my first cup. Gotta start the day right!

I attended a church that ended up having to do this as well because attendance outgrew the building. They do an 8:30am Sunday School followed by a 9:45 service. The second round of Sunday School starts at 9:45-10am as well and the second service at 11am.  Both services are the same, so far as a person can preach the same sermon twice. My wife and I always liked to go to the early one.
