May I ask why tattoos and earrings continue to pervade most of your postings?

D:

Actually, this post is more about how someone's desire for ink could be avoided. (See also the OP).

Re. the earrings for gift ideas, Kitagrl and quinkie mentioned them and I responded, I guess.

Blessings. Edited by farouk

It just seems that most of the postings I see from you continue to be about tattoos or piercings. Maybe I'm mistaken.

I remember receiving some wonderful gifts as an 18 year old...a beautifully bound copy of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy, illustrated by Alan Lee; and an anthology of The Complete Works of Shakespeare, bound in leather with gilt pages. My husband, who at eighteen was heading off to study Bible at Bob Jones University, received a set of commentaries (can't remember by whom) and Spurgeon's Treasury of David. Talk about meaningful gifts! Of course, books are unfortunately fading into the background in this technologically-dependent world we live in...but I still love them...and I love my Kindle!!!

Annie:

These sound like excellent books, for the most part; thank-you. Yes, I can't imagine the history of English-speaking Christians without Spurgeon's works. And of course Shakespeare is in a class of his own for the sheer expressiveness of his language.

I've never been into Tolkien; can't say as I've read much of him at all; is it good reading?

Some good ideas there, ty. :)

Some 18 year olds go crazy about shoes.

(But it's hard to buy shoes, however fashionable, unless they have personally approved the design, right?)

Due to all the suggestions for eReaders (to which I say a hearty AMEN! I love my eReader [which I received for my 18th]) You could combine that with a CBD or Amazon gift card to buy eBooks with.

Another suggestion, if they like books, is find a book that has impacted you a lot in your life and buy them a copy and present it to them, explaining it's background.

Just a suggestion.

God bless you.

Sounds good; nothing like personal recommendation, right? :)

Ty for the suggestions.

Yes, it's great reading, IMO. I've loved Tolkien's work since my first encounter wtih The Hobbit in fifth grade. But, of course, the 18 year old in question may not be a Tolkien aficionado...or even a literature aficionado at all...so it's good to take personal preferences into consideration. Edited by Annie

Annie.

Ty. Yes, one's personal taste in reading can certainly vary quite considerably as the years go by. Some 18-year olds like what other 15-year olds like but others are a lot more mature by that age.
