Is this movie pretty clean of rock music? I know its a rated G which even in kids movies is getting rare anymore, but even G ratings contain lots of horrible music (for instance, "Cars").

It just came out on dvd and I want to get it for the kids unless its full of lots of horrible music.

I read a review about this movie by a Christian reviewer. I don't recall the specifics, but he was mostly negative on this movie and recommended the original.

Sorry, not any real help, if I can recall where I read the review at I'll look it up and post a link.

I watched it in the theater and I don't remember what kind of music it had, didn't really pay attention. As far as the movie overall, I could some it up with one word - BORING. Like, fall asleep boring. :frog

Well I have four kids. LOL.

I do like Dr. Seuss. haha. And as much as I can't stand Jim Carrey, he fits the Dr. Seuss stuff just perfectly! As a matter of fact I really liked his Grinch movie although did not let my kids watch it due to a few improprieties....

Dr. Seuss is a really sentimental part of my childhood. haha.

Well, Kevin, it is a kids' movie after all. :frog

Suzy, we rented it from Redbox last week and our kids (ages 4-10) loved it. In fact, I remember telling dh how much I liked the opening music. It was calm and quiet. I don't remember what the rest of the music was like but if it had been really bad, we would remember.

We watched Cars when it came out a couple of years ago and STILL remember that it was a cute movie with undesirable music.

Yeah I let the kids watch Cars ONCE but they had to have the mute button on for half of it.

Same thing with a Clifford movie that came out...cute movie...awful music.

I remember one scene in this movie that made no sense what-so-ever. It was a mock battle scene done Pokemon style. Very strange. We rented it from Redbox and previewed without kids and decided not to let the kids watch it.

My husband rented it for us to preview, but we haven't gotten the chance yet. My sister (who is totally on the same page with us about these issues) said she'd never let her kids watch it. She said something about crass content and careless talk. Our kids don't even know the movie exists...so, no big deal! We're the "meanest parents on earth" when it comes to movies/media. Our kids have never seen any of the "Disney princess" movies except for the old Snow White and Cinderella. They have no idea who Mulan, Buzz Lightyear, the Incredibles, Lilo and Stitch, Nemo, etc., are, unless they happen to know that information from friends or McDonald's Happy Meals.

Sorry to ramble...All that to say to Kita: Sorry, don't know much about the movie except what my sis has said.

Hmmm that's surprising, they usually rate a kids movie with crass content PG and we know not to watch them.

Yeah...I'm not sure what she was talking about, since I haven't seen the movie. She said it was on while their family was traveling on a flight overseas, and originally she was glad b/c Horton is such a cute story in the book. But then she felt the need to switch it off midway through. She said it wasn't because of actual words like gosh, darn, etc., but b/c of other careless talking--like things on the movie that were meant to be funny, but that she didn't want her kids to think were funny...maybe like smarting off to parents, or just "foolish talking/jesting, which are not convenient." I talked to her about it a couple of minutes ago, and she couldn't remember exactly what was the problem. Must have been the jet lag. :wink

I don't remember any "crass" content. I'm sure there was stupid humor, it was a stupid movie, IMO. lol
I thought the cartoonish battle was really weird, too. I didn't see anything in the movie that was questionable, it was just a silly movie.

Ahhhh...but do you have children, kevin???? (hee-hee :wink ) I've become quite a different kind of movie critic now that I'm a mom. Things that easily slipped under the "appropriateness" radar during my single years have suddenly entered the "no-fly" zone.

That but also I'm super sensitive to the "nightmare factor". haha. So many things in movies that may seem harmless or even funny to us may give children horrible dreams. I am super sensitive to that....even have to remind my husband of it, since he loves old black and white movies and even some of those are not appropriate for younger children (gunfights or such in old westerns, etc.)
