http://www.pluggedin.com/videos/2009/Q4/Up.aspx <----- here is a review

Though I don't agree with most of the Focus on the Family Stuff, I really do like pluggedin. I use it a lot to check up on movies.

It is a good resource to check for finding out the content of movies (ie. level of violence, sex scenes, number of swear words, etc.), but DO NOT use their opinion on whether a movie is worth watching or not - those people have a serious lack of discernment and are woefully and willingly ignorant of the Bible. They will expose the corruption in a movie, then tell you it is a good movie to watch, as long as young children aren't present, or show what kind of occult stuff is in a movie, then say it it good to watch for the overall theme of good vs evil.

When are you planning on watching up if you do? My church is showing it this Saturday night and then I can tell you my thoughts.

BTW I know this is off topic, but I didn't start it. Another good website to check movies out is http://www.kids-in-mind.com/ This website does not give opinions about whether the movie is good or not but gives a rating based on sexual content, violence, and language much like plugged in. Jerry you are right about discernment. I don't know where this speaker came from at my college, but he was supposed to be a Christian speaker speaking on movies. Well, he stated that if nudity is in a movie and isn't sexual it is okay as long as the message of the movie is good. Needless to say I was not happy after that convocation. Thankfully I have graduated from college already and don't have to put up with their convocations. They invited the guy who wrote the Shack to speak too.

Jerry,

I have noticed this many times with pluggedin! They will point out some serious (at least serious to me) negative content, yet at the end they will give it a green light for families. They are usually PG movies, which I usually do not allow my son and I to watch. There are only a very few PG movies I will approve of, and I know Up is PG, so that is why I was enquiring about it from fellow IFBs.

Up is clean. I don't remember anything suggestive or inappropriate in it, unlike most other "children's" cartoons.

Agreed. They do a great jOB of reviewing the movies but a horrible jOB when it comes to recomendations.

A Christian radio station I listen to sometimes has movie reviews from plugged in and sometimes while I'm listening to the garbage they mention in the movie I'm thinking how inappropriate that movie is but then I get surprised to hear them give the movie a 3.5 out of 5 total! Huh??? I just don't get it. If the movie has that many prOBlems, why watch it at all?

I thought plugged in don't do ratings. I never like ratings as it doesn't say anything.

I just want someone to "report" what goes on in the movie. plugged in does a pretty good at that... but I always ignore their "conclusion" because basically that's their opinion.

I wouldn't mind if they also include "comments" from other viewers (and we all know people have all kind of opinions!)

World mag did an article on the Pixar leadership right about the time Up came out. It is here: http://www.worldmag.com/articles/15443

In a previous article in World (about the time Wall-E) came out, they were mentioning about how the main leadership of Pixar are committed Christians. Its wonderful to see these Christian folks in such a culture shaping position doing such a good jOB. I have not seen Up yet. It is in our Netflix que.

Where did you get that? Much of the leadership of Disney is pro-gay (or gay) or involved in the New Age movement.

I got that from a previous article in World about the time Wall-E came out. Google provided this: http://christianmovienews.com/pixars-mighty-men-of-faith/

Pixar was bought by Disney in '06, but many of the top folks are not Disney guys: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixar
