I have been told by some good preachers that I need to keep up with current events. I do not read the newspaper; I don't often listen to the news, but I manage to catch many the rotten details of the scandals and betrayals, and the lives (or deaths) of Hollywood idols. Isn't that mostly what the news is all about? Oh, and politics! No more needs to be said of that! It is all simply local and "national gossip"! I wonder where these things fit into the scheme of Biblical thought? Phi 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things …

STEADFASTNESS The love we have for the Lord can only be measured by what it takes to pull us away from Him! Some of us are too easily offended, like the seed that takes root, and grows quickly, then withers when the storm comes. What would it take to separate a good man from his family? Sometimes not much, but there ought to be nothing that could rend us from them. It is the same with our God. What can separate us from the love of God? (Rom. 8:38,39) nothing can, we ought to exercise that same love toward Him. A mans strength is measured by the amount of resistance he can withstand, a true measure of love is the same. If our marriage can’t take a little straining…

Are professing Christians to abide by the Word of God in such matters in all aspects of their lives or is the law of the land, the particular country they live in or their personal opinions or feelings to be their guide? We see the Episcopal church, along with others, accepting one sin after another yet professing Christians continue to attend these churches, continue to identify themselves as Episocpal (etc.), and thereby give their support to sin such as women preachers and abominations such as homosexual priests and bishops. We see various churches dropping biblical commands and principles in favor of ecumenical outreach, "bridge building", and attempting to live…

I have a grave prOBlem; I need advice desperately in this prOBlem, and hardly know where to turn... It is this: When there is a Tiger baseball game on the radio, and the Lions play on tv, which one do I choose? I don't know. i get so tired of running to the radio and getting the score, then running back to the tv, hoping I did not miss anything! I don't know if I'll ever solve it until after baseball season, when the Tigers take away my choices...but for now, I am in a strait between the two! Maybe I should take it to the Lord in prayer? ok, no wise cracks please!

Our proud representatives in the house have passed a department of defense appropriation bill. Included in the bill is legislation to dissolve “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” the current policy of the military concerning sodomy. According to the pro-group, current DADT is discrimination and alienates a valuable asset to the military (Middle Eastern language interpreters). The alienation can result in the member voluntarily leaving the military under false pretenses to escape the stress of living in denial of their sexual preference. I’m wondering how many homosexual interpreters there are in the service? What are the possible ramifications of dissolving DADT? Military Law …

What is sin? James 4:17 “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” Sin is clearly defined in the Bible. Here we have the first of seven definitions of sin, most of which are OBvious by the fact that the Bible outright says, “this is sin”. Romans 14:23 “And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.” “Whatsoever” is not done in faith, is sin. We do many things and forget our Lord in them, do we then do them in faith? To fail to excercize faith is sin. 1 John 3:4 “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law…

I don't usually get caught up in critiquing the president, nor political junk, but I found this among my stuff, and thought it might be amusing. “And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time” and the Lord said to Deborah “Deborah” and she said “Here am I Lord”. And the Lord said “I want you to go up and fight against the armies of Sisera, and I will deliver him into thine hand”. And Deborah said, but Lord, I am but a woman, in subjection to my man, and who am I to go to war against Sisera, the captain of Jabin’s army.?” The Lord told her then to go get Barak, and take him with her, that she may be sanctioned by his presence. Debo…

What do you think of all these Christian tours to Israel that offer folks who have already been baptized to be baptized again in the Jordan River? Is such cheapening biblical baptisim? Is such making the Jordan River some sort of "holy" or "special" water for baptism? If one has been biblically baptized why would one want to be baptized again in the Jordan River?

I've been thinking about some of the ways Christians respond to differing views, thoughts and beliefs and the following quote from CPR reminded me so I though I would start a topic on this. *I notice that Christians sometimes tend to think, "If you don't agree with me, then you must not be a Christian." We need to be very careful because more often than not this is not Biblical, is unnecessarily divisive and drives people away from Christ.* (Credit to CPR) Why does this seem to be becoming the default reaction/reply among many Christians today? Is this a dangerous trend? Do we risk offending God? On what grounds does Scripture say we may determine whether one is…

PIMPS FOR JESUS OR MEN OF GOD? By Roger Fredinburg August 17, 2010 NewsWithViews.com California’s Proposition 8 passed overwhelmingly by California voters has recently been negated by a single San Francisco Federal Judge with suspect motives, some even speculate the Judge is gay and therefore unfit to hear the case. United States District Court Judge Vaughan Walker, who heard the challenge to the constitutionality of California's Proposition 8, has come under attack from several sources, but the Christian churches are not rising up, in fact, they are “deadly” silent. Yet, people still attend Sunday service and give them tidings believing that God lives there. …

Heb 13:1 "Let brotherly love continue." For years I have self-debated as to whether I should accept certain brethren, even Baptists, that differ in belief than I. This morning, in my meditations, I have discovered what many have been trying to teach me for the same amount of years, that “They that are not against us are for us”. These “hyper-Calvinists”, and “Baptist briders”, and etc., if they “do all to the glory of God” then perhaps I need to accept them, as He does! I have been taught ecclesiastical separation, even among my own ranks, and yet…maybe I have become a Pharisee! I am torn between two ways. One need not become them, or change because of them…

Given the amount of nonsense and negativity I have read here regarding the men of the Lord that go out there to do His bidding, preaching at true Christian churches, rebuking heathens, and doing street preaching, I figured we need a good example of how to properly preach. Let's start from the pulpit. Here is an account from a fellow pastor of mine, and a few good anti-abortion preaching techniques:

Ok, so I've been begging my dad to let me join a martial arts class. He said I could but, only if I could keep up my grades(ACK) and if I joined the football team this up and comming year. I'm not a huge fan of football but, I really want to take this class. SO, I just wanted to know if there were anything tips or heads up about this sport. I really want to do good because if I don't then these crazy people will hate me even more X / and I wont be able to take the martial arts class. So, any advice?

I posted this sometime back on another forum that I used to write on. Thought it may help us reflect on the mercies of God today. Just a sinner Postby rightymo » Thu Jun 25, 2009 10:28 pm They announced earlier today that Michael Jackson died of a heart attack. He was only 50 years old too! Now I don't follow Michael, and could not tell you even the name of one of his "songs", but I had heard enough of the scandals that he got himself into. My first thought was "God finally got tired of his wickedness", but do you know what the Lord put into my mind? He's just a sinner' he was doing what sinners do; he wasn't much different than any of us, except for the grace of G…

Isa. 53:6 (A Sheep Analogy) “All we” Everyone of us! This is all-inclusive; there is no exception. The Bible is clear on this fact. “Like sheep” Sheep are “dumb” animals! They have no sense of direction, and can become “lost” in a few yards from the flock. Without a shepherd, they can never find their way, they merely wander aimlessly, until some evil befalls them. Most animals seem to smell water, they find brooks and streams on their own, but a sheep? If a sheep can’t see it, he will not find it! “He leadeth me beside the still waters” that is why the Lord gave us these words, because we all need a shepherd. It is the same, by the way, with good grazi…

Has anyone heard of or read John G. Butler? He has written a bunch of commentaries, and I want to find out if he's sound and if his books would be good to buy. I know he is a longtime Baptist pastor and went to Tennessee Temple, so that kind of narrows it down. Any recommendations either way?

I don't know if I can believe that Noah had three sons of three different races; it seems that without supernatural intervention, this would be nearly impossible in his day. The main teaching is that Ham, Shem, and Japheth became the black race,; the European race (Caucasian) and the oriental race. This is surmised because of the countries they fled to (founded?) and the types of people we see there now. Genesis 10 says that they migrated from Ararat and became other nations, and divided the land into (at least) three nations, but there is one peculiar verse there that says "after their tongues" they were divided. The beginning of chapter 11 tells us that the world …
