Have a nice 4th, Morales. For this country, it's a great milestone. There are some things to celebrate, and some things to mourn. We're 246 years old as a nation. That's a great number of years. We've been a world leader for many of those years. God has blessed us. It's very possible that He may be disciplining us now. Or, it may be that we're beyond hope. The only thing I can refer back to is the Bible says in 2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. I've heard many preachers using this verse over the past several years, applying it to Christians. It's possible it can be, and I know many Christians who are seeking his face and looking for revival in our country. Happy Birthday, United States of America.

Forty years ago I almost went to Liberty University. It had some excellent programs, and there were many people being won to Christ through it's ministry and the ministry of the church pastored by Dr. Jerry Falwell. Brother Hindson was a great influence on the university and many of my friends who attended Liberty. https://www.liberty.edu/news/2022/07/02/liberty-university-mourns-the-loss-of-luminary-biblical-scholar-and-dean-emeritus-dr-ed-hindson/?fbclid=IwAR3Kyqf6Hx6dIZm-BdSbUeKsbdFuxhsinDDEEkdNlKy0pt_M9Ly1icvkAMw

I know for a fact that it was never accepted in the church where my niece and NIL are.

Capstone Report, Commentary on Politics & Religion
BrotherTony replied to 1Timothy115's topic in General Chats
I don't have anything right at my fingertips.. Most of their reporting is on the SBC churches, though. Another place to be wary of is the Roys report. -
Tonight will be our second evening of cabbage and kielbasa, with potatoes, onions, celery, and peppers, along with a large piece of cornbread! ? YUM! For dessert, we'll be having a small bowl of chocolate ice cream...especially since it's 90 degrees here with 72% humidity! Bailey will be having an icesicle! He's always ready for one at 8 PM.

Capstone Report, Commentary on Politics & Religion
BrotherTony replied to 1Timothy115's topic in General Chats
They've reported a lot on them lately, I know. Those of us who attend churches in fellowship who are in cooperation with the SBC's mission on missions have a lot of concern as well. One thing we've noticed, though, is that they consistantly misrepresent the SBC, calling it a church when it is a system of autonomous churches, not a single entity. I try not to read the Capstone or any other news regarding the SBC or the IFB churches as they're usually highly inaccurate, or at least driven with the underlying motive to divide and destroy. -
My wife and I had considered going as missionaries to either Mexico or El Salvador in the 1980s. We were in our 20s then and it was something we had prayed about often. We were, as Paul said, hindered by the Spirit, as the Lord had started to open the doors for us to start a church in Spencer, Indiana. But, as we had started looking for apartment or home rentals there we were again hindered with several serious physical challenges. We continued to pray and were led to give what money we had collected to help two different missionaries finish raising their support to go to Mexico and Brazil.

Tonight we'll be having hot dogs, pork & beans, and potato chips. This is one of my wife's longer days where she usually doesn't get home until after 6:30 pm. We'll probably finish up with an ice cream sandwich. Bailey, of course, will be getting his daily popsicle. He loves these on the really hot days. ?

Capstone Report, Commentary on Politics & Religion
BrotherTony replied to 1Timothy115's topic in General Chats
From what I've seen they sometimes report the whole truth. At other times, it seems they have an agenda.....as with all news outlets, take what they say with a grain of salt and research what they're saying. -
Question, @Jim_Alaska? I've not studied this, but will be doing so this week since it's been brought to my attention again. I heard someone preach on this back in the late 80s, and then another pastor in the mid 1990s. The preacher from the 1980s said that just because Eden was mentioned doesn't mean that these stones were made in reference to the Garden. Instead, they were a reference to the stones that were part of the covering of Lucifer....I think he referred to "armour." The one from the 1990s said that the Garden of Eden was filled with these elements. Neither could sufficiently, in my opinion, prove their points. So, doesn't the semi-colon in the verse actually separate the two events? Wasn't Adam placed in the Garden to tend the foliage of the domain? Wouldn't that indicate that the Garden in Genesis was just that, a garden/orchard? Asking in all sincerity. Those, from my cursory examination of the two references seems to be what it indicates. I truly wish these other two preachers had tried to make their cases.

Jerry, you're correct. I believe they are being put to use so that in the future the ability to read a chip placed in the hand will be possible. My mother was issued a credit card by her bank, and they wanted her to submit to a biometric sample to be stored on the card. If she didn't she would have to issue paper checks, or use her old debit/credit cards until they expired. Then she would have to either submit, according to the bank, to biometrics, or lose her ability to bank by card. So far, she's been issued a new card with no biometrics added. I know in Wisconsin and Minnesota, friends and relatives of mine have had to be chipped for paying and identification through their jobs They were all to happy to do this for security and convenience. I wish they hadn't. So far the codes on these "chips" has been very limited, but I totally believe there is a chip coming with more information available on them, and will be pushed, and pushed hard by employers and government entites. I know the idea has been floated here in Tennessee, but so far, without success. My mother lives in Illinois...but, my cousins live in Minnesota, and a majority of the friends who have submitted to this proceeducre live in Wisconsin. They say there is nothing to it, and that it's easier than carrying their medical and financial data around with them.

Dave, my nephew-in-law and neice used to be with Campus Crusade for Christ. He was the director for the group at Augusta State University in Augusta, GA. He hasn't been with them for several years now, but I do know that there were many of the "woke" ideologies creeping in. He and my niece are Presbyterian. I don't know for a fact that their church accepts homosexual marriage. In fact their doctrinal statement declares that they stand for the Biblical principal of and teaching of marriage being between one man and one woman. So, I don't know that the information you have is correct. I've attended several Presbyterian churches, and none of them have been accepting of homosexual marriage. Do they love the sinner and hate the sin, trying to reach them for Christ? Yes. Just as one can't lump Baptist churches who accept this abomination in with those that don't, one can't lump all Presbyterian churches or Campus Crusade for Christ, now CRU, into one group. Not all hold to that.

I totally understand about not feeling well HappyChristian. It was overly hot again today, but a severe thunderstom rolled through and it relieved us of the heat for about two hours. Now it's back up to 90 with 60% humidity. I felt sorry for our pastor, who had come out to mow our lawn since I no longer a able to do so. I took him a gatorade before he got his weed eater. So, we're going to once again have sandwiches (sarnies) as some of my friends from the UK call them. My wife didn't want me to cook. She gets like that sometimes and just wants sandwiches or soup. It's almost five o'clock here, and she's just now leaving work over an hour away. 65+ miles one way, so an hour to two hours depending on the traffic.

Me, too, @Jim_Alaska Vivian said something about me making a macaroni salad today. I will probably do just that. It's going to be another 95+ degree day....Thankfully, tomorrow is supposed to be a bit cooler, somewhere in the mid 80s. We're facing some severe storms here this afternoon, so I'll probably make the macaroni salad this morning. At 2 AM, when we got up, it was still 81 degrees. It's 76 now w/ 94% humidity.
-
Tonight, since it's still 97 degrees here (heat index 112), we're having sandwiches, chips, and pork and beans. I'm not going to heat up the oven for anything. We had meatloaf last night, with green beans, and field peas, and then chocolate ice cream for dessert. Bailey got a raspberry flavored popsicle. ? He loves anything that's icy!

And, to them I would say that the Bible says that tongues are given as a sign, not for the believer but for the unbeliever. Charismatics always seem to hate the verse that contains this. They also hate the one where Paul says he would rather speak in a known tongue and edify the body rather than speak thousands of words in an unknown tongue. I have too many relatives in the Charismatic and Assembly movement, and they never question my beliefs on tongues because they don't want to talk about the Bible in depth.

Baked chicken, rice and gravy, and peas for dinner last evening! I was going to try and make biscuits, but, thanks to the power outage caused by an electrical storm in the area the oven needed to remain closed to keep the heat in and finish baking the chicken.

Why would anyone want you not to post? I believe that you could use a little help with conveying your message in the grammar/wording you use. But, we do try to understand a lot of what you try to say. ? I have worked with Hispanics most of my life, and am part Hispanic myself....but I still, at times, have a hard time picking up on exactly what you're trying to say. Others have publically stated that here as well. Suggestion....have you tried "Grammarly" software? I know it helped many of my Hispanic friends to better convey what they were tyring to say.

I don't think anyone believes you're a bad person. But, I do believe that some of us have a hard time understanding you, and find many of your posts concerning, confused, often too vague, or are in too much of a blanket statement format. -

Is it the same Mary in these two accounts?

Yes, they did. -
Is it the same Mary in these two accounts?
BrotherTony replied to BrotherTony's topic in Biblical Issues
I agree with this assessment of the passages. This morning our pastor preached on these two passages in his sermon Praying with Fire. In the first Bible college I went to, and even in the Christian high school I went to, the Bible teachers were teaching that these were the same account. I could never reconcile my researh to believe this. When I questioned the position, the professors/Bible teacher became frustrated and said to "ask God." Since I already had prayed to find the right answer, I explained to them exactly what you just stated. Thanks for your input. ? -
I don't believe it is mentioned anywhere. And, to be honest, I believe it's a very dangerous practice for pastors to get into. I've seen far too many end up in trouble, not just with things of a sexual nature, but with other things like just giving the wrong advice. They can be held liable for this. Even if the pastor has a psychology degree, this is not his main function as a pastor, and he shouldn't be doing this, but should rather be referring folks to sound, Christian counsellors, preferably licensed and bonded professionals.

I've recently been going back over notes from college, sermons I've heard in the churches I've been members of, and several of the preachers my wife and I have set under have preached on these Scriptures....Luke 7:36-50, and Mark 14:3-11....Some have said that these are two similar accounts and that these are two different Mary's. Others have taught that these are the same Mary. It was brought back to my attention this morning through some conversation at church. What do you believe concerning these two accounts. Are they the same or are they different accounts and different Mary's and why do you believe this way? Thanks in advance. BT
