Our furnace quit working while we were at RU tonight. Our house temperature is down to 63 right now and it is getting colder.

Hey dadof4,

How is your furnace now???

If it's still down let's troubleshoot this thing.

Is it oil fired? If so how is your oil supply?

Is the igniter circuitry firing ok? i.e. the high voltage transformer, is it putting out the customary 9-12 thousand volts?

Is the fuel getting to the combustion chamber thru the pump, or regulator (if it's gas-fired)?

When was the last time you had your system serviced? A typical servicing covers the fuel filter, air-recirculation filter, heat exchanger cleaning, spark-gap adjustment, jet-nozzle replacement, and CO/CO2 emission analysis.

Our furnace is only 2 years old.

The company that installed it came out today and looked at it. He took the cover off the furnace, and it fired right up and starting working again. The only bad thing about that is when you take of the cover, it should turn off due to a safety switch. The man put the cover back on and the furnace kept on working. He has seen this once before and told us to quickly heat up the house a little more than usual because he is pretty sure the furnace will quit again. They are coming back out on Monday with the parts to fix this problem. So, for now, we have heat. The pressure switch is not working properly inside the furnace and they will need to replace it (again). This same thing happend last year, too.

I woke up about a month ago to a cold house. The thermocouple went out. I replaced that and we've been okay.

A couple of weeks ago the motor on my sisters furnace stopped working. She got it replaced the same day and it happened on one of the warmer days so it wasn't too bad.

Down to 63......Our Thermostat is set at 62, we never get any warmer than that. The rule in our house is if you are cold, put more clothes on. Glad to hear you have heat again and that they know what needs to be done to fix it.
