Doubtful Disputations

What do you think this verse means?


Rom 14:1 Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, [but] not to doubtful disputations.

It explains it in the rest of the passage...using meat offered to idols as an example. There are some things that are not spelled out in the Bible that some believe they should avoid and others think are okay. IF THEY ARE NOT TAUGHT AGAINST IN SCRIPTURE then they should not be debated or made a big deal. For instance they would sell meat in the markets after it was offered to idols. Some figured it was "just meat" and ate it, which was fine...others felt they should not eat that kind of meat, and to do so would have defiled their conscience and for them would have been sin. I think "doubtful disputations" means arguing or judging for little things that are not taught in Scripture...maybe such as buying Christmas or Easter gifts, or whether or not you eat a meat sauce that a restaurant used cooking wine in... or whether or not a person should own a tv. However if a person thinks they should not do any of these things, then for them it is sin...and we should not flaunt our "liberty" in front of them, because say if a person believes they should not have a tv, and we convince them to buy one against their conscience, then we have caused them to stumble and actually sin.
