I don't want to get on a vaccine argument...but the flu vaccine is one that I decline for my children. I allow them to get all they need except this one (and I plan to refuse the brand new oral Rotavirus one for my newborn next month) but I can see from the article above that I'm going to get more flack for that decision this year than ever before.

Great. Can't wait.

yeah, most of my son's doctors are demanding that I should get a flu shot for my son.

Mainly because he had terrible asthma attack after a cold. They are afraid for the worst if he had the flu. I might get him one after being scared for his life. but this is something I have to research on.

Can someone point me to some good info on the vaccines? I didnt even know about the oral one until I took my son in on Monday. We didnt get any of them done because he is sick but I am so confused and conflicted on it all.
My daughter is due for her last shots and my son is due for his first and I have found myself extremely worried about it.

Check out this book, written by a doctor who is very knowledgeable about vaccinations.

This book helps with a safe schedule for vaccinations and the author has looked into the risks of different vaccinations. It seems to be a good book to have for those whose children are of the age to be given vaccinations.

I read an excellent book when my son was a baby, but I don't remember the name (it's in storage and I can't access it either :sad ), but it sounds like these two books could help with anyone's questions.

Vaccinations overall are a good idea but now they are taking them overboard...I get my kids almost all of them but do not get the flu or now the oral Rotavirus. I also try to get them to spread them out over time.

Originally vaccines saved many lives from Polio, Diptheria, and other scary diseases. To not get them now would not be fair because its trusting other kids to get theirs to keep your kid safe...but if everyone stopped getting them, we would again see the deathly diseases. I also like the respiratory disease ones because I know my oldest got ALOT of croup and RSV as a young one and I like the idea of shielding the baby from risky lung infections.

The only thing I don't like is the surge of non-fatal disease vaccines. I think they should limit them to the highest risk because it gets to where the risk of the disease is not worth the risk of the shot IMO. Rotavirus is just a bad stomach virus and I don't like the idea of putting it in my baby's mouth. The flu is bad too but I think its the same as rotavirus, its just a winter sickness and you have to watch for dehydration closely.

I'm breastfeeding which is why I figure my baby is immune to whatever I'm immune to for now anyway so he doesn't need rotavirus.

As you said, Suzy, in your OP, I don't want to get into an argument, but I respectfully disagree with much of your statement. A parent has to decide if they are going to get their child(ren) vaccinated, and nowadays the decision is basically made by the government. There is a lot of fallacy about vaccinations wiping out diseases. The cases of polio that are existent today are directly linked to the vaccination. God gave us an immune system, and in many cases vaccines can abuse that system. Parents need to do some research before they decide what to do.

Each parent must research and do what is right for their family. This is true.
