Members heartstrings Posted January 30 Members Posted January 30 (edited) In the King James, there are two basic forms of the word "you". If the sentence is speaking to a group, as the direct object, the plural form "you" is used (or "ye" if the group is the subject) If speaking to an individual, it uses the word "thou".(or thee for a direct object). But I never noticed this before. The following verse changes from plural to singular. Deuteronomy 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: God in His grace, specifically offered life and death, blessing and cursing to the whole group (you, plural). But He then specified that it was up to the individual (thou) to choose. Edited January 30 by heartstrings robmac68 1 Quote

Ok, I thought about it and I must say once again it makes me want to sing "How Great Thou Art." God in His greatness and bigness, Who can hold the world in His hands has made such a choice personal to me. A little speck of dust on this big planet is allowed to make a decision of such great proportion. What is man, that thou art mindful of him? Yet He is and not willing that ANY should perish. How humbling a thought that a great God would give little ole me such a wonderful choice! How can I not but obey? Quote
Members Jerry Posted January 31 Members Posted January 31 (edited) There are many examples of this in the Word of God - God speaking to the nation of Israel or a group of people, then applying it to an individual (or vice-versa). Isaiah 7:11-14 Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above. But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD. And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also? Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. The king wouldn’t obey, so God gave a sign to the whole nation. John 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. Jesus is speaking to Nicodemus but addressing all mankind. Luke 22:31-32 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. Satan is going to put all 12 of you through the wringer, but I’ve prayed for you specifically, Peter. Revelation 2:10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. The time of persecution would affect the whole church, but the promise is to individuals. Edited January 31 by Jerry Added a verse Joe Chandler 1 Quote
