They did not want to pay taxes without representation in Parliament. Major difference.

True. If the British would have given the American Colonies representation what would have happened? They would have been out voted. Do you think that the colonies would have been happy with representatives when nothing changed or would they have rebelled anyway, but just a few years later?

Well, that's hard to say - since I wasn't there. :Bleh :Green They may have rebelled later - but the revolution was fought to throw off oppressive government, as I'm sure you know. They weren't rebelling just 'cause they didn't like King George. Many of them were in anguish about it (George Washington was one), because they were British subjects, but they knew the Crown had gone too far.

Okay - has the Anglican church in any way begun to go back to the RCC?

HC: Sorry I didn't respond to this yesterday, I must have over looked it. As far as an answer, I really can only speak for the Anglican's I know personal and the ones that I know about, both of which are strictly against the non biblical practices of the Catholic Church. I also know that the Archbishop also holds this view. You've got to remember that Anglicans, though under symbolic head (the Archbishop of Canterbury whose authority is delegated from the British Crown), each diocese is just as autonomous as each Baptist congregation. So you can't say that the Anglican Church has or has not done anything without also stating which specific Anglican Church you are talking about.

Okay, thanks. I didn't realize the diocese was autonomous. I thought it was much like the RCC heirarchy. Thanks for clearing that up!

Yeah, a lot of people associate the AB of Canterbury with Pope like qualities. It's quite the opposite though, as the AB is merely a symbolic head of Anglican Communion. He has no authority, although he is often looked to as a spokesperson for the communion.

I know that the crown can't dictate doctrine or practices, other than that I'm not sure. Any position it has within the church is delegated to the ABC, so I would assume that it (the crown) has no more authority than he does. But make no mistake about it, Queen Elizabeth believes that she is queen because God wants her to be queen. She is also deeply religious and a faithful adherent to Christian principles, from what I've been told. She even refused to attend the blessing of the Prince of Wales' (her own son) second marriage.

From all evidence, she appears to be a very strong christian that doesn't bend her standards for anyone. We could only wish we had leaders such as her in this country.
