Do You Know?

Different birds have different names for an entire group. I thought it would be fun to see how many we know...

The question is: if you have a group of ____, what is their collective name?

(example) Crows: Murder (or muster)
Swans: Herd or Whiteness

So...collective names for:

Ravens
Geese
Turkeys
Swallows
Mallards
Teals
Ducks (on water)
Peacocks
Pheasants
Snipes
Woodpeckers
Grouse
Starlings
Penguins
Swans (in V formation)

I'll list more when these are guessed....

Gaggle of geese
Murmuration of starlings (I agree they can be a nuisance). They are also called a chattering.
Wedge of swans in V formation

Good. I personally find it fascinating how so many birds have different group names. Some share names - and I don't see a connection between them. But it's neat.

Vultures

There are many words for a group of vultures.
A group of vultures may be a cast, committee, meal, vortex, venue and even wake.
Some sources state that a group of vultures circling in the air is called a kettle.

Not birds, but when we were at school we were taught that a group of whales was a school, but these days they seem to be called a pod.
