I don't suppose there is, but I thought I'd ask here anyways. Some of you must know more than I do about ears. Ever since my college days, I've had a tad bit of problems with my ears - nothing big, but just a bit of botheration now and then. I remember having bad earaches once or twice when I was in college, but I never did anything about them. Since then, I would have pain especially in my left ear if I sleep on it too hard, but it only happens now and then - almost like arthritis or something - where I'd have spurts of time where it would bother me every night for a while, and then it wouldn't bother me for a long while, etc.. I always have to find THE softest pillow I can find wherever we go because firm pillows hurt my ears something awful. When I do have that nighttime pain, it is a very sharp pain for a short time. I wake up after sleeping on that ear and have a throbbing ear for a few minutes, then it would be fine. This actually hasn't been happening to me recently, but just in the past day or two, I've had some times during the day when I swallow or yawn, and my left ear pops painfully. It was happening pretty bad this evening. I don't have a cold, and I have no other pain other than those painful pops.

I have wanted to have a doctor check out my ears for a long time, but I just never get around it and am afraid it would be really expensive. But on the other hand, I don't want to damage my ear! I'm nervous about this.

An Ear, nose, throat doctor could check it out. They have great tools too :Bleh

They should be covered by your insurance.

Sounds like you might have an ear infection. I had it bad one time, that one week later, I finally had it checked out. My Ear,nose, throat doctor clean out the infection, and gave me antibodies.. I felt better within two days.

But then again, you could have something wrong with your jaws like I mentioned in a another post a while back (under the title : Jaw Clicking) . If this the case, a dentist would help you.

Mine ring like crazy and don't like much having driven me nuts, been doing it since about 1980, but have ear nerve damage according to a ear, nose, & throat doctor and nothing can be done.

But it is something you ought to get checked out, for one can have damage that cannot be reversed, which is sad when it may have been prevented.
