That is wonderful news. Hopefully he will have full use of his hand soon. It took a lot of time after mom's stroke for her to use her arm or hand. I would work her fingers and joints three times a day to keep them going (the therapists in the hospital showed me how). She now can use them. I realize your dad's is not from a stroke.

Well, yesterday was a looooong day. But a good one. Everything went well with my flight, and I got to my Dad's room in good time. When I got there, he told me he had just gotten back from a walk! He went up and down stairs and didn't fall or even stumble!! Also, he is now able to flex his left hand. The doctors were all very happy. So happy, in fact, that they sent him home!!!!!!! They do not know yet what kind of cancer the tumor was, so treatment is still being discussed (no decision will be made until pathology results are in). He also needs therapy, and they are working out details for that. We want him to be able to have the treatments and the therapy here in town, rather than having to head over to the VA - that is a 2 1/2 hour trip one-way, with a ferry trip involved both ways...so it's a good bit of $$$ and a whole lot of stress.

I'm really thankful that he is home, so I can help my Mom adjust to having both him and my Grandma to take care of. Although, if he continues improving as he has, he'll be back to normal soon (well, soon is relative in this case)! Praise the Lord! Thank you for your prayers. Please keep praying for him, because he isn't well yet by any means. The spot on his lung still needs to be addressed, but they are going to wait and see if the chemo they think he'll need alters it any. If it does, they'll probably need to do a biopsy.....

rancher - his symptoms are so much like a stroke! He still cannot grip things with his left hand, but it's coming....He works his fingers himself, throughout the day and at night when he can't sleep. I think that's one of the reasons he was able to begin flexing his hand so quickly. The left side of his mouth is still just a bit droopy, but not much. His speech has improved vastly just since I got to his room yesterday. God is good.

Happy Christian:

Really good news!

And it's always good to thank the Lord afterwards when we have prayed and asked for something and He has graciously answered our prayers, too.

Praise the Lord for the good news. May the Lord grant healing as well as strength, endurance and wisdom to your mother as she deals with all she has to do now.

Sounds like your mother had a big plate full.

She does, Jerry8. She really does. And it bothers me that I can't be out here all the time to help her. I'm just so thankful that God provided for me to be able to be here for almost two weeks.

My Dad is going in to have his sutures taken out tomorrow. He is scheduled to see the oncologist on Monday, but I don't know how that is going to work - that is the day I'm flying back home and at this point, there is no-one to stay with my Grandma.

Part of me is ready to go home (I really miss my hubby), but I know it's going to be so hard to go. Especially if my Dad ends up needing chemo as well as radiation.

Good that your dad has made some progress. Keep trusting and praying.

Its great your father is making this progress, and I pray it keeps going in that direction. I know this puts you between a rock and a hard place, with you being so far from home. There is no place like our own home.

I know to being away from home is tough, and that if possible you would be in both places at one time.

All I can say, is do what you think is right, best, for you at this time, and everyone will should respect the decision you make. I pray to God that he will assist you in making the right choice.

Thanks, Jerry8. I need to head home - my hubby needs me, too. But you are so right: it is tough!!! Everything would be solved if we could move out here!! :icon_mrgreen::thumb:

They will be having a phone appointment with his primary doctor on Wednesday (the phone works better, so they don't have to go to Seattle) about his treatment for the cancer. We know for sure it's cancer - it's melanoma. I haven't thoroughly researched it yet (haven't had the time to concentrate on it), but from quick perusals, it is not good...

Your welcome, its a shame, sometimes hard decisions are thrown in front of us. And only we know the insides of this and have the right information to make the right decisions. And as I already stated, you have to make the best decision you can at that moment.

Some may second guess your decisions, yet they do not have the information you do.
