WASHINGTON -- President-elect Barack Obama says you won't catch him lighting up a cigarette in the White House.

Noting that the White House was a no-smoking zone, Tom Brokaw asked the president-elect during a televised interview on Sunday, "Have you stopped smoking?"

"I have," Obama replied, smiling broadly. "What I said was that there are times where I have fallen off the wagon."

"Wait a minute," Brokaw interjected, "that means you haven't stopped."

I've heard this many times. These people are addicted. I use to smoke and even I said I don't smoke all the time. I may not be a chain smoker, but I was still addicted.
Even though I stopped smoking and didn't even light a cigarette during the most stressful time of my life, it doesn't mean I'm no longer addicted to smoking. I still think about it.

Unfortunately, I've replaced food with my smoking habit.

Obama told the magazine Men's Health in an interview for its November issue that he wished he had more time for staying fit and that he still occasionally smoked a cigarette.

Obama said in that interview that he had bummed a cigarette a couple of times during the campaign. "But I figure, seeing as I'm running for president, I need to cut myself a little slack," he said.

Now, why does this NOT surprise me. The man has lied about everything else. Why not smoking, too. Goodness gracious. :roll

Oh, of course...Angie. A person either gives up a vice (such as smoking), or they are still in that "bad" habit, and have no desire to quit. Barack doesn't understand that the "body is a temple."

:bonK: YES, it appears...Bakers. This is like watching a cartoon flick. **sarcasm** of course.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. And if he drinks, I'd be more concerned about that. I do hope, though, that he's able to kick the habit of cigs - he'll be healthier and his wife won't feel like she's kissing an ashtray!

a friend of mine have just kicked her drug habits. But she started smoking to replace it to get her mind off of it. If Obama was a drug user, he may have replaced it with cigarette as well.

Yes! Obama admitted to all of that!! His drug use seems to be the only thing that he is being up front with. :loco :puzzled: :eek

But she started smoking to replace it to get her mind off of it.

That is what "addicts" do.

Let's not forget that Bush used cocaine as well.

Youthful drug expirimentation that ceased many years ago does not have much, if anything to do, with a person's current habbits. Past youthful drug use does not bother me....I do think it was silly that Clinton said he did not inhale. Let's just be honest about past drug use.

I wish he would quit smoking. He does not seem to be a prolific smoker, which is good, but it would be much better if he quit altogether. But I do understand how terribly difficult is for many people to stop. Smoking really has nothing to do with the type of President he is, but it would be much better for his health and the health of the country if he could overcome the nicotine addition for good.

Never mind on this one. It wouldn't make any difference at all.

Agreed here. Although sometimes habits indicate an addictive personality, which would have effect on the type of POTUS someone would be.

I think it's interesting...when my brother was in the Marine Corps, his security clearance was nixed because he admitted to smoking marijauna as a teenager (he admitted it on purpose because he didn't want to be on Helicopter One with Carter). But we have POTUS' that used worse...and they have TOP security!!!

He need to admit that he is addicted. Plus, he have excused himself a reason to smoke .

I don't know if Kind knows anything about the "personal" life of President George W. Bush. The information on his "personal" life is out there in books that both Democrats and Republicans have written. GWB tells the truth about himself and has stuck close to the KJV 1611 AV after he became a born-again believer.

Luke 6:26...Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers of the false prophets. KJV 1611 AV.
