Pardon me while I wax philosophical, but over the years I've experienced much joy, pain, tragedy, love and blessings. I've come to realize that there are many times when less is more!

Do you mind sharing some areas where you believe "less is more?" Thank you.

When less is more...... Do you mean like how less "stuff" in the house is more time available to do something more worthwhile than trying to clean, store, re-arrange, up-keep and trip over unnecessary "stuff"? (I am planning on going through each nook and cranny of my house and "de-stuff" it!)

To me, less is definitely more when it comes to entertainment. Maybe it's just that our world worships entertainment--I don't know exactly why I react so strongly against the idea of my kids having video games, watching movies and TV, etc. IMO, all that stuff turns minds to mush. I have seen firsthand the benefits of not providing all kinds of entertainment for my kids, and for disciplining myself in this area as well. My kids are never bored. Just to try them out the other day, I provided them with a cupful of pebbles, and told them to "go have fun being bored." I told them they couldn't leave the area (we were in a hotel room with only a few trinkety toys that they had lost interest in). When I checked in on them, they had placed the couch cushions and pillows to form a "store." They were using the pebbles as money, sorting them into sizes and shapes, and buying, selling, and trading items like the ice bin, the V8 cans in the minifridge, the shampoo, etc. They took turns being the cashier, customer, stock boy, etc.

After the "session," I talked to them about being bored. I told them my theory about how the most creative ideas come at times when there's "nothing to do." I asked them what they could do if they ever found themselves in a "boring" situation. "Find something to read," was their first answer. "But what if there's nothing to read?" I asked. "Well, we can always think," replied my 8yo son. "There's always something to think about." Needless to say, I was pleased.

When comforting someone who has just suffered tragedy or trauma sometimes less words is more comfort for them. Many (with good inentions) want to give volumes of comfort and advice when perhaps telling someone you are there for them, then just being quiet and holding thier hand. :smile

Many people are so tied to this world of having more and more, wanting more and more, racing towards keeping up with friends and neighbors, they do not have time to stop and smell the roses, nor time to spend with family or friends, nor time to spend worshiping God, nor time to be about the work He has for us.

If our lives were much simpler, them we would have more time to smell the roses, for family & friends, and time to be about the work our Father has for us.

Of course when many see your not in the world race no longer, they will think something bad is wrong with you.

That works for me.

Less clutter, less allergies :D

My MIL thinks less toys is more. She says that kids end up playing with household items than their own toys. Boxes especially.

Your MIL is a wise woman, deafnva! I agree wholeheartedly! Last week I threw away three whole trash bags of toys that had built up in our basement toy bins...and my kids don't even miss them. They're too busy pulling each other around in the empty bins!

I agree. All of the "stuff" we have on this earth (material belongings, worries, etc.) are like investments in the world. Having too many things to keep up with can keep our focus from where it belongs, on God. When we are more "low-maintenance" we have more energy and time to devote to the Lord and other people.

"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
-Matthew 6:19-21

Sad to say, most would feel completely lost without all of their earthly treasures and would not know what to do with their time. So they keep working harder making more money so that they can even have more earthly treasures.

LESS time spend in the internet is MORE quiet time with the Lord. More time to read the bible, more time to pray for other people's burden, MORE time to be alone with God...
