the following was found on a pastor list.....

As I was in the Philippines the pastor told me that many of the mountain churches don't have hymn books. Instead when someone comes down to the cities they will just try to remember the songs they hear and then teach them to the congregation when they get back. At one such church the pastor said that two of the songs they sang were quite interesting, let me tell you what they sang and see if you recognize the songs.

Magestry, worship His magestry, Uncle Jesus......

Gensings my soul, my saviour far away, how green thine eyes, how green thine eyes...

this got me to thinking about some others who should change song words to better fit their doctrine, such as the Church of Christ could sing...

Baptistry, worship the Baptistry.....

it could work for them.

It is recognizable but funny for sure. You would think they would wonder why they were singing such strange things.

First song is: Majesty, worship His majesty, unto Jesus......

Second song took me a second but I think it is this one.

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee, how great thou art, how great thou art....

That is funny, but it is also very sad. They need a missionary desperately. They want to praise the Lord, but actually are making a mockery of His name and of praise in general. "Good intentions" but not good in deed.

In this situation, I'm fairly certain God is big enough to know the heart and not thump them over the head for singing the wrong words (unless the words were "the Word of God", which I don't think hymns fall into that category, but then again if one is in a far right wing IFB cult they may think that).

OBvious a good case for Psalm singing - then the meaning of the song will be understood, as they can refer to their Bibles.

Why do they sing such nonsense? Surely they don't understand what they are singing, so if they had the correct words, they wouldn't understand.

There are plenty of songs in English by English writers that are not Scriptural. That doesn't stop them being sung.

'Uncle Jesus'

We sing (How sweet the name of Jesus)

Jesus my Shepherd, Brother, Friend,
My Prophet, Priest & King;
My Lord, my Life, my Way, my End,
Accept the praise I bring.

The Uncle who looks at the suffering family & provides the help they need. Its not a bad thought.
