I am just curious how you define legalism. What is an example of a modern-day Pharisee? Who fits it best?

Do you go to operas or other concert series? We went to a Bob Jones University production of Beethoven's Fidelio a few years ago and enjoyed it very much (subtitles and all  )!

Just a quick question: Does anyone know anything about the Gaithers later music. I know their music used to be very good (songs such as The King is Coming, one of my favorites, and There's Something about that Name). It seems like I've read or heard somewhere that they've gone contemporary, but I don't remember how I heard that or even if I confirmed that. Anyway, if anyone knows anything about them, please reply and let me know. Thanks, - Jim

It is truly amazing to me how far the church has come in America....I heard an illustration that the church always stays a certain distance from the world; but that as the world gets worse, the church follows at the same distance...to where now, the church stands today where the world stood 40 years ago. We don't have cable tv, only regular broadcast stations, but after watching a black and white Sherlock Holmes DVD ( :D ) hubby was flipping through channels and on a PBS station John Denver was having a concert like event (he was my mom's favorite until we started going to church when I was about eight years old, then she threw all the records out.) What amazed me is …

Tonight as I was sitting here alittle bit down,I remember the Joy of singing. Although I don't sing well I know it helps my soul. Here's a chorus that touched my heart this evening: :Boohoo: Your will cannot lead me where your grace will not keep me, Your hand will protect me. I rest in your care. Your eyes will watch over me, your love will forgive me, and when I am faltering, I still will find you there. Thank you Lord for never leaving me

hey! k, this kinda came up in some of the other threads but i kinda wanted to see what your opinions are on contemporary music that is performed in church without the bass, drums, etc. I've noticed several fundamental Baptist churches that I've visited using contempory music but without the rhythm. While not necessarily wrong, is this a step in the wrong direction for IFB churches? While i don't mind original contemporary worship songs that were written by IFB people, it's kinda weird listening to music that started in New Evangelical and Pentacostal churches and were originally performed by artists in those churches even if it is minus the rhythm section. Should IFB chu…

What kind of music instruments do you play??? I want to learn to play a new instrument... I can play the piano and organ I can play the guitar.. although I need more practice, right now I just play it by ear... I took violin and viola lessons in grade school... I thought that I had forgotten, until the other day when I had a chance to play a violin... somehow it all comes back to you... I admit I was very very rusty... but I did remember, and played some things on it. I want to learn to play the harp now!!! It is so beautiful, and it would be a great challenge!

You guessed it - which are more Biblical: Hymns or Choruses? I believe overall hymns are. There is more doctrinal content to them, they were not written for ecumenical purposes, they were not designed to be endlessly repetitive as many choruses are, the majority of choruses that I have heard are rock music based, many of them are charismatic in doctrinal content - even if many others are not aware of the terminology, and the wording of many of them are based on modern Bible versions. That's some things for starters. By the way, I am not against sound choruses - but I prefer sound hymns. I do not have a problem with those choruses that are doctrinally-sound and ar…

Hi Guys, I was visiting at Baptist Church in this area. I had not been to this Baptist Church in some 20 years. and I must admit, I was shocked. When I first got saved, it was strictly Hymns and that was it. I was quite shocked when they were singing contemporary music. Folks, as an ex-pentecostal, of 20 years. I can tell you, they were singing the SAME songs of the Pentecostal Churches!!!!!! I was totally stunned! :? :freak: :Ticking Since when do Baptist's sing the same songs of the Apostate Church? (see 2 Timothy 3) Thanks be to the Lord, that the Church I am a member of, ISN'T singing those songs! We're sticking to the hymns! This link better explai…

Hey, I was pleased to find a conservative, fundamental message board, and especially one where people have a Biblical conservative view on music. I've gotten into an argument about CCM and Christian rock on another Christian message board and was wondering if some of you could give me some advice on what to say to these people. I do not believe that CCM honors God, but it seems all my arguments fall flat. Some of the main things people throw back at me are: How can you say that a specific music style is wrong, and People are getting saved through Christian rock concerts. I'd just like some advice on how to argue against CCM, and show these people from Scripture t…

Has anyone heard the CD from Brookland Tabernacle Choir "2003 Live - This is is your House"? Being involved in addiction ministry and understanding where many of the people in that choir came from, I found it very touching.
