Where No Oxen Are 1 2 3

Prov. 14:4 "Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox." Oxen are strong and have been used as beasts of burden for thousands of years. A good team of oxen can be used for pulling a felled tree, plowing a field in preparation for sowing, haul water to the field for watering, and pull a cart load of harvested crops. If the beast won't work and work as a team, this could be another reason why the crib is clean; their master took them out and slaughtered them because it was unprofitable to continue feeding them. We had a visiting missionary at our worship services this past prayer meeting. He told us, just because we see little …

Can You Handle The Truth

"You Can't Handle the Truth!" from Columbia Pictures 1992 movie A Few Good Men. I'm not promoting the film nor am I going to critique the movie and actors, that's not the point of using this now famous line from A Few Good Men. I'm using a part of the movie monologue to illustrate a point. What caused the loud and sarcastic reply from Jack Nicolson, "You Can't Handle the Truth!" This outburst was in response to a loud harsh demand from Tom Cruise, "I want the truth!" In our legal system, lawyers and witnesses distort the truth all the time. It is part of their job to evade truth, deceive, and even boldly lie in an effort to win the day for the defense or prosecution.…

Mt 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. These were "wise" men, had followed his star, obviously they were acquainted with the prophecy. Why did the wise men inquire for Christ's location at Jerusalem?

Revelation Chapter 6 (Two Questions)

Revelation 6:5 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. Revelation 6:6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine. I understand oil and wine can can come from varying sources, have many uses and meanings in scripture, and that Christ used them figuratively. 1. How are the oil and the wine used above? Revelation 6:7 And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, C…

Daniel 21 And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus. Daniel 1 ¶ In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision. There seems to be a discrepancy, any ideas?

I am curious as to which of the two basic theories of the location of the Red Sea crossing folks here hold to: the standard crossing near Egypt, going south to modern Mt. Sinai, or the more 'recent', (discovered?) theory of the crossing of the Gulf of Aqaba into Arabia, and Mt Sinai being Jebel al Lawz? Do the numerous unknowns about both, (ie, actual locations of various landmarks mentioned in the Bible. possible proofs found at various sites, et al) push you one way or the other. For what its worth, I hold to the Jebel al Lawz theory. I believe there is sufficient evidence from the biblical account to at least place it somewhere other than the conventional theor…

Not A Still Small Voice...again!
by Guest- 2 replies

The other day I added to brother Scotts, thoughts I had on the same verses of scripture Proverbs 1:20-33. I titled my add-in, Not A Still Small Voice. In devotions today, reading Proverbs 8, I saw much the same message So here I go again... Not A Still Small Voice...Again! Proverbs 8:1-36. Wisdom must be important because God used an entire book with 31 chapters to instruct us about it. **SCREAMING!** Here is wisdom yelling her head off again, how many took effort to hearken to her call? 1 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice? 2 She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths. 3 She crieth at the gates, …

What Pleasure Am I ?
by Guest- 0 replies

Rev 4:11b "for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created." Each of us was created for the pleasure of the Lord. Are we robbing God of his pleasure? The question comes to my mind, "What pleasure am I" to the Lord? 1Ch 29:17 "I know also, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of mine heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people, which are present here, to offer willingly unto thee." Ezr 10:11a "Now therefore make confession unto the LORD God of your fathers, and do his pleasure:" Ps 147:11 "The LORD taketh pleasure in them tha…

Did You Ever Study Pharisees?
by Guest- 13 replies

I've begun a New Testament study of Jewish sects. It appears the Pharisees were discussed more frequently than any of the others. So what is a Pharisee? John the Baptist on Pharisees and Sadducees... Matthew 3:7 "But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?" Do you think Pharisees had any true repentance?. Jesus on Pharisaical righteousness... Matthew 5:20 "For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven." The Lord …

Overcometh?
by Guest- 0 replies
- 1.2k views
"Overcometh" is used (10 times) in the New Testament; "overcome" (22 times), and "overcame" (3 times). The Holy Spirit used John for every instance of “overcometh” in the New Testament KJV. Overcometh is recorded... twice (2) in 1 John (1 John 5:4&5), four (4) times in Rev. 2 (Rev. 2:7, 11, 17, & 26), three (3) times in Rev. 3 (Rev. 3:5, 12, & 21), and once (1) in Rev. 21:7. I'm going to rearrange the numbered occurances of "overcometh" to express thoughts below. Also, please notice that overcometh when reversed calls to us, "cometh over." One time occuring (challenge): Re 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he sha…

Wisdom - Ponder The Path
by Guest- 5 replies
What does it mean to "ponder?" 1. To weigh in the mind; to consider and compare the circumstances or consequences of an event, or the importance of the reasons for or against a decision. Webster 1828 The root of this word has a sense of 'measure;' as in a pound, or to carefully 'weigh' what benefit comes from a decision. Proverbs 4:26 "Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established." I enjoy a project. I have one coming up at my local church. We're doing some remodeling and I need to repair some doors. Here are some things I must consider... Prayer for God's blessing from now through completion. I have the ability, skills, and knowledge required to c…

I don't believe many conservative's of day would care the least bit for Daniel, we would think he was to gun-ho, that he failed to understand the liberty that God has given us. ¶ But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Daniel 1:8 For it seems he purposed in his heat to do nothing whatsoever that might defile himself. That he would take no risk, & surely he would not follow the ways of the world the least bit. No, he would not be welcomed in many Christian communities in today's…

III John 4 "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth." Proverbs 2:8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints. I gave each of my children a bracelet with the inscription III Jn. 4 on the back. This is the joy of a father to know his children will be in heaven. I thought the verse in Pro. 2 went well with III Jn. "walk in truth" and "preserveth the way of his saints." Give God the glory! Had to edit the title "III" became "Iii" thus the "3" instead

1 John 5/proverbs 28

My devotions were in 1 John 5 and Proverbs 28 today. During prayer, a song came to mind so I sang it to the Lord. "I am thine, O Lord." 1 John 5:13 "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." Why wasn't the song that came to mind "Blessed Assurance?" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The thought that came to mind while reading in Proverbs 28 was our nation, our land, and it's current distress. 2 For the transgressi…

Bitterness (a form of anger or hatred directed toward another over real or perceived injustice, situation, or outcome; can be directed toward oneself.) Biblically (Revealing of Bitterness) The first place the word bitter appears in our King James Bible is [Gen. 27:34] “And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father.” Esau is bitter because Isaac had just given the preferred blessing to Jacob. He reacted rashly [Gen. 25:27-34] and as a result became bitter. Esau sought attention and approval of his own ways. He played upon the sympathies of others about him…

To Discern Both Good And Evil
by Guest "I am chief"- 8 replies

To Discern Both Good and Evil (“the first principles of the oracles of God”) Hebrews 5 12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. I hope I can frame a question from these scriptures which make sense. [idea] I believe I understand this to mean “strong meat…

Should We Get Up In The Air Over This?
by Guest 1Timothy115- 8 replies

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. “…spiritual wickedness in high places.” Does this mean up in the atmosphere (like in Eph. 2:2) or a governmental position (Rev. 18:3)? By atmosphere I mean... Ephesians 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: By governmental position I mean... Revelation 18:3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fo…

More Earnest Heed

Hebrews 2:1 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. This verse jumped off the page at me during morning devotions. I hope everyone has daily time set aside for prayer, reading, and meditation. Therefore! Why is that “therefore” there fore? What has been given before that we are supposed to now further consider as we continue reading? We have to go back to chapter 1, the beginning of the letter. I’m going to let a commentator, or as Dave from down under mentioned “a common tator,” provide a snapshot of chapter 1. If we were Christian Jews we might be tempted to slip back i…

Hi to all! I have a King James Bible (I find it hard to understand most of the time - Old English). And I also have an ESV Study Bible by Crossway. The latest version. I also have a KJV bible dictionary. I also have a bible in my own language (Filipino). I like the ESV best. Any more good bibles you can recommend? (Oh also, before I didn't want to buy any bible because I heard that the KJV is the most reliable bible and the other bibles are not reliable and their contents has been changed.) :smug:

The Things Which Become Sound Doctrine
by Guest 1Timothy115- 4 replies

Titus 2:1 But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: Paul is not telling Titus to seek the Lord for Godly insight into mysteries to share as new sound doctrine. He is telling Titus to take care in what is said; that his speech should honor and adhere to sound doctrine. You’ve heard the phrase, “That dress or suit is very becoming of you.” Well, Titus is here directed to speak in a manner which is becoming of sound doctrine. Even more than speech alone, he is directed to teach others to conduct themselves in a manner which adheres to (is becoming to) sound doctrine. The doctrine is already given, there is no need to develop or “come up with” this “sound d…

1 Thessalonians 4:1 Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more. Walk Galatians 6 13 For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh. 14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. 15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. 16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, an…

Reprobate Concerning The Faith

2 Timothy 3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. Above is a comparison of what Moses observed in the wilderness and what we would observe in the last days. I suppose some would argue that this was written to tell Timothy what he alone would observe. But verse 9 tells us we shall see this too, “for their folly shall be manifest unto all men.” I personally believe it was a view given of God for Paul to share with Timothy; knowing Timothy would instruct the church for future generations to beware of a great schism in leadership and the resulting apostasy of the church. In th…
