I'm starting to get popup ads on the main sites I visit...I checked and everything on Google Chrome should be set correctly...I just ran Windows Advanced Care on my computer to make sure I don't have spyware...

So are they learning to make popups that go around the popup blockers, or what?

Oh..updating...just got another one...they are made to imitate a real browser page....only they claim to be "Internet Explorer" LOL and I'm using Google Chrome! I'm getting them on a few of the most major websites I visit like news and weather and stuff.

Is it a new popup technology?

Well I got a few on Facebook (which I suppose that shouldn't be a surprise)...I did get one on Fox News that was pretending to be a news story but once you read it you saw it was promoting getting rich working from home...and I had one on weather.com. Its not every time I view the sites though. And its only happened for a couple days, well I guess mostly today and yesterday.

....and my computer is working slower...so I imagine I have some sort of buggy, but I'm not sure how to find it...Windows Advanced Care and AVG Free are both up to date.

I'm assuming you are using Advanced System Care, right? If you are I would run this ASC along with it.
http://www.iOBit.com/security360.html

If you open ASC and click the Utilities Button you will see the link for it in there. Also if you have not already, run the tuneup in ASC. Disc cleanup, SmartRam, ect.

One more thing that I would run if I was you would be a better registry cleaner than the one in ASC. Here is a decent free one.

Ok now I'm getting worried...its like my browsers is not only popping things up but I'm also getting automatically redirected to sites I'm not clicking on. For instance, in Google I clicked on a link to a message board I wanted to read (that I know is reliable) and instead it directed me to some kind of advertising website. I clicked back, and tried again, and the second time it went correctly to the website I wanted.

What is going on??? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok yep my computer is sick. I tried downloading a reputable malware program from downloads.cnet and my computer won't let the program run. The popups are getting worse. I think I know where I got it...I was stupid and tried to watch a video on Facebook from someone's page, and it claimed I needed some kind of updated software to see it...I foolishly clicked on it and it never did seem to install the software so I got suspicious and backed out but evidently not quick enough.

Hmmm NOW what?

Well my hub deleted all cookies and then I downloaded AdAware and it actually found like 8 Trojan Horses...deleted 6 and quarantined 2 of them...so far no pop ups today. Hopefully my system is clean now. It seems to be working a little better too.

Nope still getting a few popups, I think maybe it keeps reinstalling itself because things get better and then I start seeing them again. *sigh* Bro Matt I'm gonna go download the registry thing but otherwise what do I do next, short of reformatting my computer?

AVG just found and caught a Trojan just out of the blue...when I was not actively doing anything online...soooo I think its safe to say I have something on my machine that is propagating itself.

How can I find it? I have like three programs "on the jOB" and evidently none of them are able to completely eradicate the source.

I would back everything up and reformat and reinstall Windows. Sometimes it's next to impossible to completely eradicate some types of malware or pieces left behind by it. The way Windows' system files are stored and updated and the fact that much of it is undocumented makes it hard to fix sometimes. Plus, a lot of malware does permanent damage to the system files, so in a case like this, I would say that reinstalling Windows is prOBably the best option.

I had that happen before..Now when I see a popup that says anything with the word "antivirus" or any popup I shut down my internet quickly without click anything (I do the alt+ctrl+Del thingy)
Those type of viruses are hard to get rid of.

I agree with A4C... format and reinstall your computer. Everyone with a computer need to learn how to format their computer (they also need to learn how to backup their important informations and pictures)

My biggest prOBlem is emails...I save all my emails from cake customers and neither my husband nor I knows how to back those up/save those. Otherwise my hub knows how to reformat and stuff...also I think all we have is a Windows XP upgrade software...not the entire software.

Help?
