Just because they are champs don't mean anything.

It means at this moment one couldn't pick a "better" team. Of course we are talking baseball and a team that wins six games in a row against decent teams could turn around and lose the next six to lesser teams!

For the most part people choose the teams they like based upon location relative to the team or family tradition. There are some who chose the team they like based upon which team is most popular at the time, or based upon a particular player they like...I don't consider those to be true fans. Kind of like those I've see commenting that if Pujoles leaves the Cardinals they will never root for the Cardinals again...who cares, if that's the case they were not true Cardinal fans, they were only Pujoles fans.

Our pastor is originall from Chicago, so he's a Cubs fan. His son was born and raised down here but since his dads a Cubs fan, so is he. Fine with me, I can respect that.

Myelf, I just like a good game. For most of the year the Cardinals just couldn't get it together. Other than a few games they didn't look too good at all until September. During September and October the Cardinals managed to play some great games and managed to ride that all the way. Meanwhile, teams that looked great all year like the Phillies and Brewers, even the Yankees, got beat out. Baseball! Who knows what will happen next.

Yeah I was talking to my dad after the series ended and asked him how they ended up in playoffs any way. The last time that I checked they were looking like they were out of the running and like 6 games back. They got hot and got hot at the right time. And yes those that only root for a team because of a player aren't true fans. They are a fan of the player not the team. I like Pujols but I don't like cardinals so I won't root for them just because of him. And I know what you mean with the being fans because of the way you were raised. My dad is a UNC basketball fan. I can watch all the Tar Heels games and be perfectly content.

Yeah, that's taking things to extremes.

Worse, in some cities gangs use certain team colors and symbols to represent their gang and anyone else they see wearing such gets attacked.

I recall people getting beat in St. Louis because some Horshoe gang world the Colts stuff and folks not knowing anything about that would get beat for wearing their gang colors! Latin Kings used to do the same to those wearing the Kings team colors. As bad as those fighting and killing folks just because they happen to be wearing red or blue. We humans can be really petty and commit terrible crimes in the process.

Years ago there was a movie called Colors and it was about the war in Califnornia between the Bloods and Crips. One side signified with red, the other with blue. They fought and killed over those colors. After the movie was released gangbangers across the country started picking up on this so beatings and murders were occuring all over America over these two colors!
