Received this email from Sojourner yesterday:

Mom is improving, but slowly. Still on the ventilator for at least one more day. She has now developed a lung infection, tho, which they are treating with an antibiotic. They have had her standing a couple times. She is quite frustrated that it's taking so long...today is day 11, but God knows when the time will be right. I know once she can do without the breathing tube, she will really start to improve faster. Thanks for your prayers for her and for us. It's pretty tedious just waiting all day and only being allowed in to see Mom 4 times a day for half an hour at a time. This too shall pass, tho. God bless you.

We were in to see Mother this morning. She now has pneumonia and is still on the ventilator and is still being fed thru a tube. They have had her standing and walking in place a couple times. She is a bit discouraged, tho. My daughter and I drove back home today and will return in the morning. We're all a bit exhausted, but God's timing is often not the same as ours...which is always a good thing.

Thank you all for your prayers.

Sorry to hear about the pneumonia as well as the resulting discouragement, as well as the exhaustion.

I will continue to take this before the Lord in prayer...

May he grant each of you the courage, strength, comfort and healing that is needed for each of you.

Received this email from Sojourner this morning:

Well, Mother has taken a step back. After having the ventilator tube removed yesterday afternoon she got to enjoy some apple juice and ice chips. When we went in to see her at 8pm, she was very tired and breathing very heavily. After we got back to the motel, around 9:30pm, her nurse called and said that Mom's oxygen level had dropped down into the 50 percent range, far below the acceptable 90% range. So they had to re-insert the ventilator tube. We were in to see her this morning at 10am, but they were doing all kinds of things to her...drawing blood, exercise, etc... They did have her stand for just a couple minutes with an assistant on each arm. At our 1pm visit, she was sound asleep. I spoke with her surgeon last night and he said her lungs look pretty clear, but they are very weak. They may decide in the next day or so to do a temporary tracheostomy if her lungs don't get any stronger. And so we wait and pray.

Here is the latest on Sojourner's Mom:

Hello All,
We were told this morning that they plan to do a tracheostomy on Monday, so Dad, Joy, & I drove home this afternoon thru a doozy of a snowstorm. When I got home there was a message on my answering machine that they are doing the tracheostomy tomorrow morning! Argh! But Mom wanted them to call us and tell us she would be okay and we didn't need to be there for it. I hated to leave her alone, but I needed to get Dad out of there for a couple days. I think it will be good for him. We're planning to go back out on Sunday. Our Pastor is planning to zip down to see Mom tomorrow after he drops his daughter at the airport in Buffalo. Other than that, Mom looked pretty good today, but she is still coughing a lot and trying to get her lungs clear. I really think the tracheostomy will probably be a help to her. I can tell she is rather frustrated and a bit discouraged. We appreciate all your prayers, cards, and thoughts for her...and for us. It's been a long two weeks as you can imagine.
God bless!

Got this email from Sojourner today:

Hello Everyone,
Not sure where I left off. We went home for the weekend and they did the tracheostomy on Mom on Saturday. We got back out here Sunday afternoon. 'Twas good to be home and to be in church on Sunday morning. They had Mom off the ventilator for over 2 hours this morning and had her up and walking about 20'. Her oxygen level stayed up over 90% while off the ventilator, so that's good. They've had her up sitting in a chair for about an hour the past couple days, also. She is off the antibiotics now, also. Her lungs seem to be clearing slowly, but she is still very weak. I don't know when, but I would hope that perhaps this week she will be totally weaned off the ventilator. Need to talk to someone about that to find out for sure, tho. But overall, I think she is getting better....it just takes time.

Thankyou for the cards, and most of all for your prayers for Mother. We truly can feel them.
God bless!

Received this update from Sojourner today on his Mom:

Hi Everyone,

Well, today Mother is being transferred to Charles Cole Cardiac Rehab at 12:30! Sure will be nice to have her only 12 miles from home instead of 135 miles. I have no idea how long she will be at Charles Cole. They reduced the size of her trachea tube last night and have her completely off the oxygen today. So things are looking good. She just needs to get her lungs completely clear and get stronger, but that will come eventually with rehab.

We thank you all so much for your prayers, cards, and concern. I'm glad the Lord has let us have Mother with us a while longer....hopefully a long while. Joy and I are off to get some breakfast, then we've got an ambulance to chase!

God bless!

Just thought I'd give an update on my Mother. It has now been 5+ weeks since her heart surgery. She is still in our local hospital, getting physical therapy almost every day. She had the trachea tube removed this past week and is walking pretty well now. The main concern right now is getting her heart rate to settle down. It continues to run anywhere from 100-130 bpm, at rest, which is way too high, and is irregular at times, also. They are trying to treat it with medication, but it's not helping much yet. Her voice is slowly returning, also.

She has come a long way....now if they can just get her heart rate normalized, she should be able to come home soon. Any prayer would be much appreciated.
