Members Kayla Posted July 4, 2008 Members Posted July 4, 2008 Arlington was the home of General Lee and the Union started burying bodies in the yard so that he could never return to his home for a peaceful life after the war. Quote
Members John81 Posted July 4, 2008 Members Posted July 4, 2008 General Lee said he would have fought to the death if he had realized how brutally the Yankees would treat the South after surrender. Quote
Members Kayla Posted July 4, 2008 Members Posted July 4, 2008 It's true. I definitely would have been a confederate supporter had I been alive in that time period. I am definitely a state's rights supporter. Quote
Members John81 Posted July 4, 2008 Members Posted July 4, 2008 You are! Missouri is a part of Dixie!!! Quote
Members Kayla Posted July 4, 2008 Members Posted July 4, 2008 Although I live in North Missouri, I live in one of the Confederate supporting part of the state. Quote
Members John81 Posted July 4, 2008 Members Posted July 4, 2008 The movie "The Outlaw Josie Wales" shows some of the true horrors put forth against Missouri by Redlegs from Kansas. Quote
Members John81 Posted July 4, 2008 Members Posted July 4, 2008 The Outlaw Josie Wales is considered a classic and you've never seen it? Beware that in the unedited version there is a very quick shot of a girl getting her dress ripped open later in the film. I didn't know that until just a couple of years ago when I saw the movie on VHS. Prior to that I had only seen the edited versions on TV. Quote
Members tired Posted July 4, 2008 Members Posted July 4, 2008 Approximately 2,000 men served in the 26th North Carolina Regiment during the course of the Civil War. With Lee?s surrender at the Appomattox courthouse, there were only 131 men left to receive their paroles. Quote
Members John81 Posted July 4, 2008 Members Posted July 4, 2008 North Carolina gave more to the Confederacy than any other State. Quote
