Was God trying to give the people of the Old Testament a little hint or preview about what was to happen many generations later? Is this the earliest "Passion Play" known to man?

Abraham goes to sacrifice his only son, Isaac.
God the Father sacrifices his only son, Jesus.

Isaac carries his own wood.
Jesus carries his own cross.

A ram was seen with it's head caught in a thicket.
Jesus wears a crown of thorns on his head.

The ram (an adult lamb) gets sacrificed.
Jesus is called the lamb of God and gets sacrificed for the sins of the world.

Abraham sends his unnamed servant to find a bride for Isaac.
The Holy Spirit, which has no name, is sent to find members for the Church, and the Church is described by Paul as being the bride of Christ (Eph 5:31-32).

Abraham went to Mount Moriah to sacrifice His son Isaac. (Genesis 22:2)

Before his death King David had provided materials in great abundance for the building of the temple on the summit of Mount Moriah (1 Chronicles 22:14; 29:4; 2 Chronicles 3:1)

If one looks at an ancient map of the temple and surrounding area, Golgotha is located just outside of the temple walls in Jerusalem.

So Jesus was crucified in the same local area or maybe the exact spot (only God knows) as the place that Isaac was almost sacrificed.

This is such an awesome study. I have heard several of them preached before. There are many more.

This is portion of a study we did

In Genesis we see the first paradise closed(3:23: In Genesis we see the curse imposed. (3:17); in Revelation we see the "curse" removed(22:3). In Genesis we see access to the tree of life disinherited(3:24) in Revelation we see access to the tree of life ReInherited(22:14) In Genesis we see the beginning of sorrow and death(3:16-19); in Revelation we read "there shall be no more death, neither sorrow" (21:4). In Genesis we are shown the garden into which defilement entered(3:6,7); in Revelation we are shown a city, of which it is written:" There shall in no wise enter into it anything that defileth" (21:27). In Genesis we see man's dominion broken, in the fall of the first man Adam(3:19); in Revelation we see man's dominion restored, in the rule of the New Man (22:5) In Genesis we see the evil triumph of the Serpent(3:13); in Revelation we see the ultimate triumph of the Lamb( 20:10;22:3) In Genesis we see the walk of God with man interrupted (3:8-10); in Revelation we see the walk of God with man resumed, and a great voice from heaven says, "Behold the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them.

Of course He was. The New Testament parallels the Old Testament in so many different places.
