Members dadof4 Posted September 20, 2007 Members Posted September 20, 2007 My FIL is having an angiogram done today. He had one 10 years ago and had a heart attack during the procedure. (I guess if you are going to have a heart attack, the best time to do it is when you are surrounded by doctors.) His doctor asked him if he had a living will prepared a couple of days ago. My MIL is nervous about this right now. My wife is feeling sick - we had to leave church last night since she was feeling so sick. We are traveling to Iowa tomorrow to be with my wife's family to celebrate my youngest son's 1st birthday (which is today), and to be with my FIL and MIL during this time. Quote
Members dadof4 Posted September 20, 2007 Author Members Posted September 20, 2007 I just got a report on my FIL. Several of his arteries are 80% - 90% blocked. The doctors have lost count of how many are blocked. They are too small to put a balloon in and too blocked to ignore. Surgery is to be scheduled at some point soon. He is still being looked at by the doctors. Just got a call from my wife - quadruple by-pass surgery is scheduled for Monday. Pray I can get the time off of work for my family to be down there with my in-laws. Quote
Members dadof4 Posted September 25, 2007 Author Members Posted September 25, 2007 Update on my FIL His surgery, for the most part, went well. The surgeon was 2 hours late for the surgery. The doctors had a hard time getting the breathing tube down his throat due to the fused neck bones not allowing him to bend his neck the right way. It took longer to get the blood vessels from his leg that were to be the replacements for the ones in his chest, but the doctors got it done. My wife came back the the in-laws house at 5:00 pm (she and the in-laws were up at 4:45 am to get FIL to the hospital at 5:30). I had to leave for home to work tomorrow, but my wife and kids are staying for a few more days there. While on the way home, I get a call from my wife. She was called back to the hospital - a family friend came to sit with the kids who were sleeping - because FIL was having tremors and a hard time breathing. Every thing is back under control now. My wife got back to the house at 10:00 tonight and is going back up to the hospital tomorrow. A church friend of my SIL will be watching the kids for a bit tomorrow. At this point, I am not sure when my family will come back home - we are thinking in 2 days, but that will depend on how FIL is doing. Thank you for all of your prayers for him - please, continue to pray that he will recover quickly. Quote

Members dadof4 Posted October 2, 2007 Author Members Posted October 2, 2007 Sorry I have not updated you all lately about my FIL. He has had a roller coaster ride of health since the surgery. His breathing tube had to stay in longer than expected. After it was taken out, his lung collapsed. He got pneumonia. Obstruction in the bowels. Other things also, but, he finally gets to go home tomorrow - if nothing else happens! Quote
