Members churchmouse7 Posted November 17, 2007 Members Posted November 17, 2007 I play the piano and there are different times in music that are used to determine how the notes are played for example 4/4 or 3/4. Worldly music uses different timing...even a hymn can be played with the wrong timing and sound worldly. I'm probably not explaining this very well but I guess what I am getting at is the beat of the music. I listen to hymns and songs that are Christ honoring. I think Kevin mentioned Majesty Music and they do have a good selection of music. I also listen to classical music...the timing is the same as the hymns you hear in church either 3/4 , 4/4 , 6/8 etc and there isn't an uneven beat to it. I didn't always listen to classical when I first got saved because I was also unsure if this would please God. I hope this helps somewhat. In Christ Quote
Members war_eagle Posted December 27, 2007 Members Posted December 27, 2007 My opinion on this subject isn't welcome here, so I'll just say that I'm praying that God will give you wisdom on this matter and leave it at that. Quote
Members Evan57 Posted December 31, 2007 Members Posted December 31, 2007 I was saved by faith thru the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. It was not automatic change overnight but gradually the Lord changes me. I am enjoying to getting use to listen to godly music without any drum beat. I went to two Independent baptist that have drums. As I listened to it. I am confused. where to draw the line? How can I know is this rock and roll music or right music? I talked with my brother in Christ about the beat issue. My question is "where to draw the line?" I have been struggle about the beat 3/4, 4/4. What are those? Evan57 Quote
Members BlessedChristianlady8 Posted January 3, 2008 Members Posted January 3, 2008 If you need an upbeat tempo of music I have a list of Southern Gospel singers that Glorify's the Lord that you can trust. However, I am not going to list them here. If you want to know then you can PM me. What is wrong with getting a cd or two of traditional hymns or Gospel music? I had problems in the passed with music in this area. My husband and I decided just a few weeks ago to not tolerate Rock music and Modern country music. We are not liking the CCM movement but I do listen to some but not alot. All I have to suggest is have you prayed about this since you first posted this? How are you doing after you first posted this? Quote

How are you doing after you first posted this? I have found the last 5 pages or so of comments very helpful. I am planning on ordering some CD's from a place called Old Fashioned Christian Radio Music Store. http://www.oldchristianmusic.com/index.htm They have a large number of CD's and you can listen to clips of each song as well on the different CDs. Also, at the very bottom left hand of the link there are several really good articles on Christian Rock music and the roots of regular rock music. I found them very informative and helpful as well, so perhaps someone else might, too. Quote

This seminar was recorded over 20 years ago but is still relevant today. It is in 2 parts. Each file is encoded in 128k stereo and approx. 45 minutes in length. You may download them if you desire.http://www.pioneerbaptist.org/musical/Seminar1.mp3 (41.1 MB)http://www.pioneerbaptist.org/musical/Seminar2.mp3 (41.4 MB) Quote

I think there is a good deal of information on this thread, as well as links that should go a long ways in helping someone make an informed decision about what type of music they should or shouldn't listen to.
