Recently I started hearing a phrase that I hadn't heard in a while. A young man was coming out of a store into the heat that is common here in Tennessee. It was 94 degrees with a feel like temperature of 106. That phrase came out of his mouth as he stood there smoking a cigarette. I was right there at the door and replied with *Yes, it IS hot. But, young man, why would you think that it's hotter than hell?* He looked stunned and sort of dismayed that I would ask such a question. I then asked him if he believed in hell, and if he did, how hot did he believe it was. He stated that he really didn't know how hot hell was and it really probably wasn't as as hot as he thought it was here in Tennessee that hell was probably a lot hotter. He said that he was catholic, and that he believed in hell but he didn't know whether it was a literal place or just separation from God. I went to the story about the rich man and Lazarus and how the rich man woke up in hell and was in torment while Lazarus was in the bosom of Abraham in Paradise. He then replied that he knew that story well and asked me if I thought that it was a literal story. I stated that I did because Jesus had given the element fire in the story and that was a good indication that it was a true story. I then proceeded to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to him, and he nearly got saved. But he needed a few days to think about what I have said and would get back to me in a few days. I left him with my number and told him he could call anytime especially if he was concerned about the destination of his soul. He told me that he knew he was a sinner but he didn't know what to do about it. I finished up with the gospel story and gave him a tract. So it's always a good thing to listen to what people are saying and follow the prompting of the Holy Spirit in presenting the gospel at every opportunity. Why? Because hell is real and Hell is hot and there are people going to hell everyday.

I was at work in the library one day when a patron made that comment...I told him that there is no place hotter than Hell. He very dismissively said Hell wasn't real. I asked him how he could think it was hotter than Hell then, if Hell wasn't real. And then I spoke for a few minutes on what the Bible says about Hell. Heehee - we weren't supposed to begin conversations about "religion" or politics with our patrons, but if THEY did, well...I took every advantage. 😁

This particular patron hated "religion" but couldn't help himself bringing it up every time he saw me. He tried to intimidate me into not saying anything, but it never worked. Which is probably one reason the director put me in public relations, behind a desk and away from patrons. heh.

That's great, Tony! I look forward to hearing this young man got saved.
