If they can't keep their heads above the water, let them go, Another company will come along that can. Us tax payers cannot afford to buy their cars and them give them handouts. They can cut the money they pay their top people and cut out the party times.

But there is one problem, most people are now neck deep in debt and have not the resources to buy anything, hey, they can't even make payments on what they presently owe.

Now with so many at the point they can pay their debts, its hurting America, it was just a matter of time before this happened, its been brewing for years with so many Americans buying like the money well could not go dry. Plus buying way more than they can pay for.

I'm just glad that I'm debt free.

Governor Granholm (remember her name' date=' she's like a younger Hillary--yikes!) has already driven enough jobs from our state with her "policies", and like Obama she doesn't see how these things are NEGATIVELY effecting our economy. It is such a big mess, it is unbelievable. Our taxes keep going up here, but our property value is going down....figure THAT out. [/quote']

A younger Hillary? :eek

bzmom07...do we need to call Ted Nugent in on this one? "The Nuge." :thumb Yep---I think the NRA needs to get "highly" involved up there. He is after all from Michigan. :Green

I am thinking this might creep down to OH---if we are NOT careful. Slowly, but surely. They used to say take $20,000 on the value of your home in OH---and (wallah) you have your house in Michigan. WOW!!!!

These companies are huge. They could sell off large portions of themselves, or what they own, and still keep their auto making operations going. The thing is, they got themselves into this mess but now they don't want to make the sacrifices necessary to get them out of it. They want to cry for a handout and make dire predictions that they will all collapse, sending millions to the unemployment lines and leaving America with no auto-makers.

The fact is, they can trim their companies down and still keep making autos and become financially sound.

If they fail to do that, Jerry is very correct that someone else would get into the auto-making business and make a nice profit filling the void these guys would leave behind.

I think they are concerned about sending more business to overseas car places but still..... they should stop the bailouts NOW.

Many foreign auto-makers now have many plants right here in America employing Americans.

In any event, GM could sell off huge chunks of it's assetts and NEVER even touch their auto-making ability. The thing is, they greatly overextended themselves yet they don't want to go on a diet now that they can't afford to eat so much. Instead, they want the government (via taxpayers) to pay for their continued buffet.

Left alone, the American auto industry will balance itself out even if that means one or more of the Big Three go under.

EASY NOW ! I'm a Michigander. However I don't like Gov. Granholm either. Gov. Granholm is said to have a strong possibility of becoming Pres. Elect Obama's Secretary of Energy............. As far as being a younger Hillary, never heard that one before, but wouldn't doubt hearing it from those that really follow what she does.

Connecticut's Center for Economic (can't remember the full name) out of UCONN released a report on Monday stating our state's recession started 12 months ago and will likely last another 12 to 18 months, possibly less. They rank our recession as mild and over the next two years the job loss is estimated to be 40,000 people vs 160,000 per year in the 1990's recession. The reason they gave for it being milder than the rest of the nation:

- Not hit nearly as bad by the mortgage and foreclosure issue
- Higher average family incomes, allowing people to keep spending
- Already moved much of its economy to non-manufacturing sectors

But, on the bright side we did start issuing marriage licenses for Gay marriage today.................... :verymad:

trc123...if you can find a job in Cleveland, OH...and, their are some these days...maybe you can convince the family to move? I know you love my church. And, you have just heard it on-line. :thumb

Although, BroMatt, his family, and others will be left in Connecticut. :sad

John, If I, a white American male 61 years old married to a white American woman 60 years old mismanage my money and go busted will the president of this United States and our congress be concerned and want to bail me out?

Free markets ought to be left free, the big 3 did those in the past very dirty, that is they forced car makers out of business to stop the competition, maybe they need to find out how it feels to go broke.

Kodak, Polaroid, General Electric, Sears, and many other American business will be calling for the government to pass out money to them that is taken from us in the form of taxes to pay their bills while charging American tax payers a very outrageous price for a product that is actually not that well made.

Their all lining up at the Federal trough already. Oh, the oil companies will not need help, with the prices dropping they will claim their going broke too.

That should of let that big insurance company fall. That is the America way.

But what your seeing is our politician have been bought out for years, now there handing out money openly to big business, I feel sure they will get a return and we will get higher taxes to pay for the bail outs.

....which is funny, Jerry, because the government claims to hate big business (remember all the complaints about Walmart pushing out the little guys...oh yeah cuz they are non union and the government loves union) but now they want to bail them all out.

Yes, the people in our government speak about small business and them being the backbone of America, but its the big business which have the deep pockets and money to hand out for big favors from people who are in positions.

Big businesses in America has gotten many favors from our government.

My ex-son-in-law, he has an air conditioning & heating business does not mind the least bit to pay the big bosses for doing business with their company.

I've got a friend whose son lives up in the North West part of our state, he spoke of the gifts and favors his son does for city officials to buy the jobs as an engineer to do the cities planning.

We are in a fallen world, and there is no evil that fallen man will not do to fulfill their own personal lust.

A few get caught, but no near all of them.

Washington DC is where it happens the most, big companies such as WalMart has so much to gain by feeding the politicians who are in position to help them. They consider it just to be the cost of doing business.
