CPAC sponsor drives conservative groups away

Chad Groening - OneNewsNow - 1/7/2011 3:40:00 AM

Several pro-family organizations have announced they won't attend an upcoming conservative gathering in Washington, DC, because among its sponsors is a homosexual activist group.

The American Conservative Union's (ACU) Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) is normally one of the largest annual gatherings for conservative activists and a platform for Republican presidential candidates. However, this year's event, scheduled for February 10-12 in Washington, DC, will be missing some major conservative heavy-hitters, including the American Family Association (AFA), the Family Research Council (FRC) and Concerned Women for America (CWA), as those groups boycott CPAC because it is receiving sponsorship from the homosexual group, GOProud.

"We decided to stay home last year because GOProud was a sponsor," reports AFA's Bryan Fischer, director of issues analyses. "GOProud is a radical homosexual activist organization. They are determined to obliterate laws against same-sex 'marriage;' that's their agenda."

He goes on to point out that the activist group has actively supported the effort to repeal the exclusion of homosexuals from military service.

"That was one of their objectives, and they've accomplished that first objective," Fischer laments. "Now they're going after the institution of marriage, and conservatives need to rise up and say, 'No -- we're going to draw a line in the sand here.'"

He explains that homosexuality is not a conservative value, which is why the AFA cannot be part of a conference that condones that lifestyle.

Another prominent pro-family group, Focus on the Family, announced earlier this week it is considering ending its sponsorship of the conference in the future. But Focus spokesman Tom Minnery told a Colorado newspaper will participate this year to help offset the influence of GOProud. Still, he said, this may be the last year it is a sponsor.

Why is the ACU and CPAC even considered or called conservative by Bible believing Christians or any true conservatives?

They yoked with radical liberal homosexuals last year and obviously totally ignored the boycott by some Christian conservatives. The message should be obvious. To them, ACU/CPAC, having the support of this radical liberal homosexual group is more important than having the support of conservative Christians.

While they have some flaws, as do we all, I commend AFA, FRC and CWA, for boycotting this event and stating clearly why they are boycotting.

While it's good that Focus on the Family says they will consider ending their sponsorship of this event next year, it's a real shame they aren't willing to take the stand right now and do what is right. It's little wonder Focus on the Family has lost much support since their move to push James Dobson out of the organization he created, and they decided to take a "softer" approach.

We should all take note of who does boycott this event and who takes the easy way and supports and attends. It might be helpful if we posted the results for all to see.

The situation is being framed to leave traditional conservative social issues out of the discussion. ACU and CPAC consider themselves conservative economically, and their actions prove they are socially liberal. They want the Republican Party to ignore moral/social issues and focus only on economic issues.

Subject: CPAC

Dr. Dobson, Tom Minnery, et.al.,
I encourage you and your staff to seriously consider not attending the CPAC convention. The participation and support from
the homosexual group, GOProud will far out shadow, via mainstream media, any attempt on your part to be a voice of
opposition to the homosexual agenda. Also, I encourage you to withdraw any support for CPAC.

I won't come to you with an issue without a suggestion. You have a loud and far reaching voice through the ministry of
Focus On The Family, use it to show your opposition to CPAC's incorporation of the "GOProud" agenda. You have access
to main stream media which will tell your story, I urge you to make a statement through them.

Many professing Christians in the U.S. respect your ministry and listen to your advice. You have an opportunity to influence
political leaders where it hurts them most, informing the Christian community about leaders and their associations with
radical groups seeking to destroy what we hold dear.

I appreciate your time for consideration of my request.

If others have time I encourage you to send similar emails to FOTF. You can copy and paste my comments if you don't have
time to draft your own. If you don't feel an urgency to take action then I hope you will pray for God's wisdom and peace in the
matter.

While I sympathise with that argument, would it not be better to attend and speak aginst their involvement?

Doing so over here would probably get you arrested.

Unfortunately, they wouldn't allow the issue to be discussed at their meeting and most probably wouldn't speak out even if allowed.

The move is on to paint "social conservatives" as being wrongheaded, bigotted, religious zealots out to force everyone to bend their knee to their will.

In doing this, "conservatism" is being painted as little more than an economic issue, with some also accepting the idea it also means a strong national defense, but only if the military is filled with open homosexuals.

'RED EYE' HOST GIVES SOCIAL CONSERVATIVES A BLACK EYE

By Marsha West

January 9, 2011
NewsWithViews.com

The host of Fox News Channel's Red Eye smeared and mocked what he deems "conservative moralists" such as the Family Research Council and Concerned Women for America for not participating in the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), a prominent forum for conservative activism. After being involved in CPAC for over a decade the conservative groups chose to pull out of the event because CPAC has moved away from conservative principles. This year GOProud, a group of ‘gay’ conservative activists, was invited to participate.

To be fair, the host, Greg Gutfeld, is a satirist. Red Eye regulars are conservative, libertarian and liberal. No topic of discussion is off limits on the show. Discussions include politics, religion, homosexuality and they even cover “ethnic houseboys, torture pits, cannibalism as a ‘lifestyle choice,’ seedy tricks in parks, allusions to drug abuse, etc.” Most of the time the show airs at 3:00 a.m. EST.

On December 30 Gutfeld opened the segment on CPAC with this monologue:

“They’re here, they’re queer, and the Family Research Council refuses to get used to it nor would the Concerned Women for America love them. As a result, both groups are refusing to attend the DC-based Conservative Political Action Conference this February, due to the fact the righty group GOProud has been invited, ‘cause, well, they’re evil sodomites says Tom McClusky of FRC of his boycentric boycott…”

First off, Tom McClusky, senior Vice President for FRC Action, said no such thing. He did, however, make a statement about FRC’s refusal to attend CPAC:

"We've been very involved in CPAC for over a decade and have managed a couple of popular sessions. However, we will no longer be involved with CPAC because of the organization's financial mismanagement and movement away from conservative principles."

What the Red Eye host failed to mention was that several other conservative groups have withdrawn from CPAC, to include the American Principles Project, American Values, Capital Research Center, the Center for Military Readiness, Liberty Counsel, and the National Organization for Marriage.

Now back to the show. After showing a clip of so-called ‘gay’ penguins, Gutfeld mused:

“What should CPAC do about these conservative moralists who just can’t believe that gays have a right to be there?”

He called on FNC’s Kimberly Guilfoyle to answer:

“[They should] pretend that they never even made a statement about it, honestly, if they address it, they’re giving some kind of validity to their position. I think they’re being divisive. It’s not helpful.”

What’s not helpful, Ms Guilfoyle? The fact that, unlike liberals, conservatives refuse to compromise their values and principles?

Guilfoyle ended with this childish comment:

“They should participate if they want their voices to be heard and actually show up.”

Should they also show up at a ‘gay’ pride parade and join in the merriment just to prove to the GLBT community that they’re not the bigoted, intolerant, unloving homophobes they’re accused of being? The organizations that dropped out of CPAC had good reason to do so. And because they happen to be significant conservative organizations their voices will be heard -- and their moral values will remain intact.

Moving right along, panelist Joe ticked off some of the problems we’ve got-- our debt to China, snow in New York City streets, people crossing the border and “we don’t know who they are…” (They’re illegal immigrants, Joe!) “Oh, but let’s worry about gay people…it’s so annoying…it’s no one’s business...if they want to be at your conservative conference you should look at the things you have in common with them politically! This is where the Republicans are going to squander all the gains they’ve made." High five from the panel.

So Joe is saying that Republicans may squander all their gains if they don’t wimp out and cave in to liberal’s demands. Joe also thinks Republicans could lose the next election for refusing to stray from their conservative platform. Has he not heard of the grass roots movement called the Tea Party that got liberals fired and conservatives elected? Conservatives that wimp out will be out of a job, Joe!

At one point the Gregmeister’s brows knitted together and he asked in a serious tone:

"I just got to wonder…why do people care so much?" ‘Gay’ panelist Bill Schultz shot back, "Because they’re actually gay…they’re absolutely gay."

I was hoping Kimberly, a conservative, to jump in and defend family values. Nope. She sat there cackling like a hen.

There’s more. Toward the end of the discussion Bill, with yet another attempt at humor, made this observation about Christians:

“If you’ve only got your car and you’ve only got your church, you’ve got a lot of time on your so what you do is you go back to your house….and you’re angry. You’re not sure why you’re angry so you start thinking about dudes, then you start thinking about dudes having sex, and you get angrier and angrier…”

C’mon, Bill, Christians are labeled “judgmental” not angry. The angry label fits the liberal revolutionary or the radical ‘gay’ activist.

But I digress.

All in all the Red Eye panelists had a gay old time (pun intended) mocking conservatives for their politically incorrect stance on homosexuality. One wonders if they’d sit around the table joking about the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) 2010 report:

1 in 5 men who have sex with men in 21 U.S. cities has HIV; nearly half unaware.

Would they poke fun at the CDC’s 2009 report:

AIDS Rate 50 Times Higher in Homosexual Men

Would the CDC’s report on syphilis be something they’d find humor in? Here’s a quote that will set your teeth on edge:

“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated the following regarding syphilis in the United States: "While surveillance data are not available by risk behavior, a separate CDC analysis suggests that approximately 64 percent of all adult P&S syphilis cases in 2004 were among men who have sex with men, up from an estimated 5 percent in 1999...."

Evidently the panelists are unaware of World Net Daily's 2009 report on the fallacy of the so-called gay gene:

'Gay' gene claim suddenly vanishes.

American Psychological Association revises statement on homosexuality

Peter LaBarbara, president of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, said he supports conservative groups pulling out of CPAC. In Greg’s opening monologue he couldn’t resist giving him a smearing “all in good fun” I’m sure. (My comments in brackets):

“Meanwhile, like-minded gay-haters applaud the move. Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality…” (before continuing Gutfeld grinned, glanced at the panel and quipped) “You know their meetings are shirtless…” (Getting the laugh he was looking for he then quoted LaBarbera) ‘Shame on CPAC for defending the absurd proposition that one can be conservative while embracing moral surrender.’ Oddly he said that while shaving his chest.”

The panel continued snickering during the Red Eye host’s tasteless insults. No surprise there. This is what we’ve come to expect from entertainers.

Sadly, social conservatives who have the courage to state publically that sodomy is, by its very nature, an unhealthy practice are smeared and mocked by those who disagree with them.

Will someone please explain to the Left that a sexual practice that brings with it deadly diseases and untold misery cannot be a good thing for society. The CDC, a government agency, makes it clear that man-on-man sex is a danger to society if for no other reason than HIV/AIDS will potentially puts those who contract it six feet under!

One last quote from Greg Gutfeld and then I’ll move on. Allow his enlightened view of sodomy to sink in because Mr. Gutfeld shares the same view as most celebrities:

“Maybe it’s because I live here (the Big Apple) but I-I-I, I don’t remember anybody in my circle who gives a d- -n about what goes on in people’s bedrooms.”

In the city that never sleeps it may not matter. However, in other parts of the country where regular folks live what goes on behind closed doors does matter. And for good reason!

But that’s another article.

Most everyone in our so-called enlightened society, including many Christians, has adopted the politically correct motto “live and let live.” Funny how we don’t apply this motto to alcoholics, drug addicts, smokers, over-eaters and pornography consumers. We’re always trying to get the addicted into a 12-step program “for their own sake.” Why don’t we do the same with ‘gay’ people?

Who would say to a smoker, “Smoke to your heart’s content sweet cheeks.” No one wants a loved one pulling a container of oxygen around. Which is why the medical profession airs TV commercials showing deceased celebrities warning of the dangers of lung cancer and illegal drug use and why we say to loved ones, “Quit smoking or you’ll die of lung cancer you idiot!”

Our PC society has a “live and let live” attitude toward homosexuals even though a number of scientific studies show that same-sex sex is a self-destructive behavior. Sodomy is just as injurious to the human body as alcoholism, drug abuse, smoking and obesity.

The good news is that there is no scientific evidence that there is a ‘gay’ gene – like it or not being ‘gay’ is a choice as is imbibing in alcohol, smoking, porking out, and viewing pornography. By the grace of God ‘gay’ people can and do change. I’m not just whistling Dixie. There is plenty of evidence to support this claim. Problem is, news sources hide the truth for a number of reasons that I don’t have the time to go into. (Check the links below for the answers.) What’s important for people to discover is the truth about homosexuality. To begin your quest visit Stephen Bennett’s website

For real hope and change to come to America, Christians must “feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and visit the prisoner,” said the late James Montgomery Boice. “But the chief needs of people are still spiritual, and social work is no adequate substitute for evangelism. In fact, efforts to help people will only be truly effective as their hearts and minds are changed by the gospel.” (Bold mine.)

In the words of the Lord Jesus, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15).

:amen::clapping: I surely do wish more professing Christians could get that!

Your so right John, many Christians thinks the republican party stands for Christ, and by supporting them, they're supporting Christ. I will admit, they do stand for a few more Bible issues than the democrats. Yet they're far from standing for all of them. And many in that group also believes the American way is God's way.

Here is a response to my email to FOF...

Dear Dave:

Thank you for the honesty with which you have communicated your reaction to CitizenLink’s participation in the Conservative Political Action Conference. You obviously feel strongly that we should withdraw from this effort -- and while we acknowledge the right you have to your opinion, we must respectfully disagree. It is precisely because of the retreat of other socially conservative groups from CPAC during the last couple of years (not to mention the fact that CPAC is, by far, the largest gathering of its kind in the country) that we feel it’s especially critical for us to remain involved as a means of ensuring that the pro-life, pro-marriage, pro-family views are represented more robustly than they would be otherwise. Our presence helps prevent the CPAC event from drifting even more dramatically toward the small government/libertarian atmosphere that was so marked at the 2010 conference.

Perhaps it would be helpful for me to clarify both CitizenLink’s and GOProud’s respective positions with CPAC. CitizenLink serves as a sponsor, while GOProud is an affiliate -- an association that carries less prominence and permits less input than does our own status as a sponsor. I’d also like to point out that CitizenLink was asked to chair the Domestic and Social Issues Committee, something that played a significant role in shaping the conference’s panel topics and speakers within the realm of social issues. By taking advantage of this valuable opportunity, we’ve been able to leverage the influence we’ve gained in just one year with CPAC’s organizers. As a result, the socially conservative viewpoint is being articulated -- particularly with regard to the debate over traditional marriage, our greatest point of disagreement with GOProud.

Having said all of that, I’d like to assure you that we do feel CPAC obviously erred in inviting GOProud to attend the conference. We are firmly convinced that they need to correct that error, and we’re confident they eventually will, given the outcry that has ensued since GOProud was included at CPAC. Given the nature of this situation, our decision to cosponsor the event is year-to-year, and not permanent.

I hope this explanation has helped shed light on the role we have chosen to play with CPAC, as well as our unflagging commitment to scriptural truth. Thanks again for taking the time to share your perspective with us. We trust 2011 is off to a great start for you and you’re looking forward to all that God has in store for the months ahead. Richest blessings to you and yours.

Timothy Masters

They are worldly, and they love their worldly ways to much to withdraw.

Yes, they have got even worse over the past year or so. This is at least partly why they are hurting for funds and getting rather desperate in their appeals for money.

Their reply seems to suggest they think they have some sort of control because they are a sponsor and get to have some influence. However, they obviously don't have the control or influence to prevent CPAC from yoking with homosexuals who are promoting a totally unchristian, anti-christian agenda.

Rather than separating themselves as the others have, they have chose to remain yoked to this. What happened to putting God first?

John, To me it seems that the worldly ministries are the ones that are prospering, those who hold to the truths about Jesus are hated by the world.

That's especially true with regard to churches.

Focus on the Family, while still raking in a lot of money, isn't bringing in as much as they used to. Part of this is because the founder, James Dobson, is no longer there. Part is because the economy isn't good. Part is because they have changed some of their focus.

Of course when it comes to groups like this, it seems they spend much of their time begging for more money whether times are good or bad. I think part of the problem with this stems from these groups planning what they want to do on their own rather than seeking and following God's will. God will always provide for what He calls someone or some group to do. God doesn't promise to provide for everything we decide to do on our own.
