Election
There is much confusion about the doctrine of election here, so I suggest you search these verses out (all that verses that have the words “elect” or “election” in them), and decide for yourself, being, of course, in prayer and submitting to the Spirit of grace. Don't be swayed by the name-calling and OBvious animosity on this board, you decide for yourself.

The word “election” is not found in the Old testament.

Rom 9:11 (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)

Note: “Being yet unborn”

Rom 11:5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

Rom 11:7 What then? Israel hath not OBtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath OBtained it, and the rest were blinded

Note: “That which he seeketh for” Is election something we seek? Hello “total depravity”!

Rom 11:28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes.

Note: Enemies of the Gospel, but chosen of God!

1Th 1:4 Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.

2Pe 1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

Note: It appears we must do something to establish ourselves as the “elect”. Notice also that “calling” and “election” are two different services; one can serve without being the elect, but none can be rightly called “elect” without serving the Lord.

Elect

Mat 24:22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

Mat 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Note: “If it were possible”

Mat 24:31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Mar 13:20 And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.

Note: the “elect” are the “chosen of God. The elite?

Mar 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.

Mar 13:27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.

Luk 18:7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?

Rom 8:33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

Col 3:12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

Note: These are the “elect”; a description of the elect.

1Ti 5:21 I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou OBserve these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

Note: “The elect angels”; we are taught that the angels have no “free will”, but do as commanded or created to do. The mere mention of them tells us something!

2Ti 2:10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also OBtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

Note: You will have to determine what this means to you. Paul suffered “for the elect’s sakes, THAT THEY MAY ALSO OBTAIN SALVATION”.

Tit 1:1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;

1Pe 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto OBedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

Note: “according to the foreknowledge of God…” This may be the key to understanding the doctrine of election!

1Pe 2:6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

Note: this is OBviously speaking of Christ as the elect.

2Jo 1:1 The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;

Note: An OBscure verse that refers to an individual (lady) or the church; it is not clear to whom he refers. It appears to be a certain lady he is addressing.

2Jo 1:13 The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen.

Note: Though v. 1 seems to be referring to an individual, this verse sounds as if it refers to a “sister church”.

And here’s a few from the Old Testament; Elect:

Isa 42:1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.

Note: This also seems to refer to Christ, God’s “elect”.

Isa 45:4 For JacOB my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.

Isa 65:9 And I will bring forth a seed out of JacOB, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains: and mine elect shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there.

Isa 65:22 They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
END.

According to my Bible program (E-sword) that is every mention of “election” and “elect” in the Bible.

Hi - I use the e-sword program too.

It is by the will of God not men that people are saved.
John 1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Which is in contrast to works based gospels.

In my research, election is also related somewhat to voting. Voting in churches is biblical, it is a
a type of "lot", not random lots of pulling straws usually - like a "lot-ery", but like casting "ballots" which
comes from the word "ball lot". The Athens also used to have elections, and they voted by putting
round stones or pieces of clay "balls" in piles to elect or chose someone.

But God's elect are those God chooses. You don't sit around and elect someone to salvation by popularity
vote! I think that this may also be what is in Rev 2:17.

Of whatever varitions that people may teach on 'election' I don't know, just what is in the bible. Edited by MaxKennedy
