We received an unsolicited survey/contribution request from the Democrats. Hit them where it hurts them!

If you receive “postage paid by addressee” return envelopes from the Democratic National Committee (DNC): Don’t discard it. Load it with junk mail and return it to them. It costs them money by weight (?). So, make every one of their dollars count for nothing. They usually have “NO POSTAGE NECESSARY IF MAILED IN THE UNITED STATES” marked in the stamp location.

Here is the enclosed survey (disguised contribution request). They aren’t the slightest bit interested in what you or I think. The following questions are rated (Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor, Undecided).
SECTION II
1. How do you rate President OBama’s performance in addressing the nation’s economic situation?

2. How do you rate President OBama’s performance regarding the passage of health insurance reform?

3. How do you rate President OBama’s performance regarding our nation’s energy policies?

4. How do you rate President OBama’s performance concerning foreign policy?

5. How do you rate President OBama’s performance in handling the war in Afghanistan?

6. How do you rate the OBama administration’s efforts to hand over responsibility to the Iraqi people?

7. How do you rate President OBama’s overall performance?

SECTION III
Please rank the following 13 national issues by their level of priority. Mark the appropriate number by each issue, with the number 1 signifying most important and the number 13 signifying least important.

America’s Economic Situation
Regulation of Financial Institutions and Markets
Lowering Unemployment
Dealing with Iran
Fighting Terrorism
War in Afghanistan
Handing over responsibility to the Iraqi People
Improving Race Relations
Nuclear Proliferation
Improving Education
Energy Independence
America’s Image in the World Community
Dealing with North Korea

SECTION IV
Please rank the following 5 goals for the Democratic Party by their level of priority. Mark the appropriate number by each goal, with the number 1 signifying most important and the number 5 signifying least important.

Organizing Grassroots Support
Raising Funds for 2010 Congressional Elections
Electing Democrats on the State and Local Level
Reelecting President OBama in 2012
Combating Republicans’ OBstructionist Tactics

SECTION V: COMMENTS

(4 lines were provided)

I've worked in campaign and party offices before and people do this sometimes. I wonder why they don't spend their time trying to get their own candidate elected...

Regardless, the office will have to pay the price of a stamp (or less) for postage because they are a non-profit organization. Not much of a loss there. There will be an unpaid college intern who is tasked with going through all of this mail and entering all of the information into a supporter data base. If any donation is included they also have to document that according to federal election laws and send a thank you note.

On sections 2-4 (especially 3 and 4) there isn't much damage you can do as the opposition. OBviously you will give the President all low marks and they'll be able to smell a rat pretty quickly from that. In your comments section you will OBviously make yourself known. To be perfectly honest, these are the kinds of things that are either thrown in the shredder or, if they are especially good, put on a bulletin board for other staffers to read. I'm not kidding, it's a stressful environment and office humor becomes necessary.

All in all, I would advise you not to waste your time. You will hurt yourself more than you will them. For the record, I'm not a Democrat, just offering some advice.

May I ask, how would doing that fit in with do unto others as you wish them to do unto you?

Agreed Jerry! It would seem to me that one should just spend that time to get their own candidate elected!

Sorry folks I'm not accepting a Pharisaical reply. The survey is sitting in front of me while the envelope with 3 ounces of junk mail from Walmart, Lowes, etc. is on its way to the young person charged with opening and entering data.

"May I ask, how would doing that fit in with do unto others as you wish them to do unto you?"

I would hope if there were as much godless activity and legislation pouring out of my white house (my siding is white) as there is in Washington DC's White House someone with Christian values would do something positive besides complain. At the least offer prayers for one or the other.

While I've never stuffed my junk mail in their envelopes I've mailed their material back to them and eventually they stopped sending me all that unwanted mail so returning their stuff to them did have a positive effect.

I also hardly receive any mail from the RNC anymore either. OBviously the warmed over liberals at the RNC didn't like my responses and lack of sending a check.

How is my reply a "Pharisaical reply"?

Also, how is what you are doing positive? It won't change anything and, as I pointed out earlier, it wastes more of your time and resources than it does of theirs. A positive activity would be working to support a candidate you believe in. As you mentioned, prayer is a positive activity. I pray for our leaders whether I agree with them or not and I hope all Christians do. In fact, each Sunday at church we collectively pray for our President, Governor and Mayor by name.

Harmless as sheep. Never returning evil for good. Turning the other cheek. We are to be peculiar people.

Oh, a very positive thing would be to pray, in fact its the most positive thing a Christin can do, much more positive than mailing back and envelope stuffed full making it cost them much money. That my friend, will only generated hate towards you and will not bring glory to God. Please think about this. Its not being the least bit Pharisaical.

Can always count on this site to turn everything into an argument. :wink

To truly "do unto others" would mean I should put a $10,000 check in the mail. (And hope it really works that someone does that to me!!! haha)

Sorry this thread was just amusing to me. I totally see the viewpoint of the OP tho.

If you did that you would be following the letter of the law not the spirit. Do unto others doesn't mean that you literally have to give anything to anyone who asks without a second thought. It does mean that we should consider how our actions affect others, always being thoughtful and helping where we can.

In this situation, "do unto others" doesn't mean that you should donate money to a cause you do not support. It does mean that you should consider your actions and if they will bring about any good. It means that you should not seek to bring about any harm to people who are doing honest work for a cause you do not agree with, but you do not have to support it. Put the mail in the trash or, if you really get a bee in your bonnet about what they're trying to do, go support the opposition. Such is the beauty of a democracy.

Not trying to argue - just making a point. :)

Do as you wish, but your not helping the cause of Christ nor glorifying His name in doing such a thing. Your stooping to worldly ways, that which you would expect from worldly people.

Careful Jerry, the commandment is to GO, not to post. Waste of time? I don't believe the Lord is finished with any of our perfections yet. I waste about 30 minutes max. reading my mail, paying bills and stuffing DNC envelopes with the ads that come. How much time is spent here? Are message boards worldly?

Pot - kettle...Jesus - examine yourself.

Sorry, but mailing in such a thing to the Democrat headquarters causing them to spend much more money causes hate for the name of Christ, and does not bring glory to our Lord. Just placing such trash into the trash can is the best thing a person can do with such trash received in the mail.

I assume your doing this as a child of God.

Col 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

1Co 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

If you we something that causes hate towards our Lord, your not glorifying our Lord.

And why would this be junk mail ? I get those questionnaires from both of them I answered them both and mailed them back. No big deal they want to know what you thought.

I am just glad I am neutral now on political stuff now, I don't worry about something like this. Oh yes you don't have to fill those out if you don't want too its not mandatory.
