Let me ask a honest question. We have been using the rep system just under a year, what cliques has the reputation caused here?

I would think that posting would cause more cliques than a private rep system where you can't even leave comments.

Very true!

We all can get a bit to heated from time to time.

Yes, it's human nature to do this. Especially for those who don't post regularly on the forum. All I know from experience on other boards that rep points leads to cliques which leads to hard feelings. Personally, I don't care one way or the other but it does seem childish to give out stars like we're in grade school. BroMatt mention how you give out ratings on e-Bay and such. This proves the point. If you see someone with less of a rating you avoid dealing with them or assume they're below the grade.

I think that it is childish to do some of the things that were mentioned concerning rep points--come on! We are supposed to be mature adults, as well as mature Christians. if bro Matt puts in rep points, it is his prerogative--he made the forum! To use the system as a guide as to what to read, etc. seems to be very childish; in fact, to allow it to determine your posts, as to whether or not you post is silly because the hope (at least mine) is to glorify the Lord, and maybe edify the brethren at the same time.

I do not post hoping that my post will gain me more rep points, and I hope that is not the reason others post here! In fact, Most of my posts are under a pseudonym (in various places), and not my real name! I have about four names I prefer to use to write under, because I am not here to glorify ME! It is my hope that that is true for all others here too.

If rep points keep people from reading my posts, then take them away; I am more interested in the number of "reads" on each post, lest I find the whole thing a waste of time! I rep according to "sensibleness" in posts, not if people agree with me, but for character; I think that is what the rep points ought to be about.

I have used the system sparingly, and seriously, and have only "repped" a few times, but I feel that character deserves recognition nowadays, and that seems like a good way recognize it! Edited by irishman

Agreed. As set up I don't see how the rep system could foster cliques.

Of course when it comes to posting, especially over time, one discovers who they most often agree and disagree; one might become friends with some, not care for the personality of some, or a myriad of things in-between.

However, as has been pointed out, we should all be mature Christian adults here (even the younger folk here I believe fall into this category). If we checked our attitudes by Scripture that would most certainly bring about a better atmosphere and reduce any tendency towards improper cliques.

I really like the rep system, and I'm going to start using it a lot. Especially for people who take the time to answer simple questions or engage in healthy, edifying, Christian discussion.

I just noticed that I'm limited though, I wanted to rep a couple more good posts today, but I ran out of reps for the day!
