Sound Doctrine

“Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.” (Titus 1: 9)

“But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:” (Titus 2:1)

Doctrine is important. We live in a time when it seems that doctrine is shoved back into the background of our faith; it seems that we sacrifice doctrine for other truths, and overlook the value and importance of sound doctrine. Our doctrine determines much of what we do, what we say, and what we become in the Christian life, and ultimately it reflects the true “us”. You see, our creed determines what we think, and that determines what we do. So then our creed determines our conduct; our conduct determines what we do; and our character determines what we are. Here is the order of our lives:

Our creed: (What we believe) this determines our actions, or what we do;
Our conduct: (This is what we do, and is determined by what we believe.);
Our character: (This is what we are, in secret, when no one else is around. Our character is revealed much by our conduct)

This is the sum of our doctrine, and hopefully shows the true value of truth and the belief in the all the teachings and disciplines of the Bible.

Our pastor is quick to point out the importance of doctrine. He will point out that there is room for discussion about some things but when it comes to fundamental doctrine there is no room for compromise at all.

Amen to sound doctrine.
Sad to say, we have many professing Christians, even many pastors, the only doctrine they know if that which has been proclaimed by TV preachers and other ecumenical prone people who put forth a doctrine that will fit in most any church in America without offending those who teach all types of work base salvation.

That is so unlike what we are taught in the Bible. For instants.

Ac 9:26 And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple.
Ac 9:27 But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus.
Ac 9:28 And he was with them coming in and going out at Jerusalem

In the above verses the discplies of the church at Jerusalem would not accept Paul, that is not until Barnabas testified on Paul's behalf, them and only them was Paul with them coming and going out as Jerusalem. It seems as if Barnabas had not of testfied on Paul's behalf that he would not have been accepted by the members of the church at Jerusalem.

If we don't gurad our churches, know what to gurad them from, they cannot be the pillar of truth.

1Ti 3:15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
