I was studying Jeremiah 9 and I read the following:

Jeremiah 9
25 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will punish all them which are circumcised with the uncircumcised;
26 Egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all that are in the utmost corners, that dwell in the wilderness: for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart.

Can anyone provide some comments about these verses? Specifically the part about circumcised with the uncircumcised and the uncircumcised in the heart. I want to make sure I am on the right track. Thank you.

This is the way I understand these verses:

Jeremiah 9
25 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will punish all them which are circumcised with the uncircumcised;
26 Egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all that are in the utmost corners, that dwell in the wilderness: for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart.

In verse 25 God makes no distinction between the circumcised Jews and the uncircumcised Gentiles; because, as verse 26 explains, the Jews are "uncircumcised in the heart. When God's people (circumcised) practice the sins of the ungodly (uncircumcised), they must expect to suffer punishment with them.

Circumcision is much like physical Baptism...it is an outward manifestation of an inward event or condition.
The circumcision....(the Jew) has been set apart from the rest of the world to be Holy, sanctified and peculiar as a unique people...chosen of God. The circumcision event is a demonstration (albeit hard to understand) of the inward cutting away of the world....separation from sin and sanctification unto God. I suppose there is the thought of this being seen daily by the bearer of this mark....a reminder.

Baptism of the believer by immersion is much similar.....it is an act, a representation, a picture.

The Jews who began living like, acting like, participating in the wickedness of the "uncircumcised" or (unsaved / damned) were informed that they would be treated as such if that was their desire.

It is like telling a rebellious child...."if you wish to act like a stubborn and rebellious son deserving of punishment, then you shall be granted your desire.....and suffer the punishment reserved for the rebellious".

That help at all?

Bro Dave and Pastor Harrison,
Thank you very much for your responses. It is good to know when you are on the right track with your bible studies and this website does a good job on that. Again, Thanks.
