I've started reading Charles Ryrie's book on dispensationalism, I'm wondering of anyone else here has read it and want to know what you thought. I think it's interesting so far, but I'm going to have to re-read it when I'm finished, there's a lot there. This is not a topic to start an argument between dispensationalists and nondispensationalists though, if we could keep that off of this topic I would much appreciate it. This is a simple question, not a debate discussion. :uhhh:

I'm not sure which is the right section for this, but not being ind. baptist, I don't have access to all the threads. How is your prayer life? How is mine? Paul said: 'Pray without ceasing' (1 Thess. 5.7) In the context of the chapter it mentions rejoicing and thanksgiving too. God sees our heart.

Mom fell and broke her arm :(

I'm busy helping my mother recover from a fall and broken arm and all kind of things happen here. I will get used to it later. I just don't have much time to get a feel for the new look now. I've been busy since Sunday evening the 17th when Mom fell. She is recovering but a lot of changes are required around her house to make it less "fall friendly." She is 87 and will require a walker for the rest of her earthly life. Prayers are welcome, she is doing very well. We tried at home for one day but I couldn't provide the lady help she needed in the abscence of care givers so we decided on a rehab facility. I see her 2 times a day and work on her home changes in between.…

One wonders why it is the male species that outshines the female in most of God's creation? The male is almost always the better looking of the two!

In the morning I will leave for Shreveport to have cataract surgery on my left eye. Will spend Monday & Tuesday night. Surgery will be early Tuesday morning, & I will have to see my doctor Monday morning them again early Wednesday morning after the surgery. Cheaper to stay a couple of nights than drive back and forth with the high price of gas, plus morning appointments are quite early and it about 139 mile drive. This month it seems to be catching up, my cataract surgery Tuesday, then on the 29th Linda has lower back surgery. We are finding when you get up in age you spend more time with your doctors. An elderly man, in his 70's, that attends church with us had…

Wasn't quite sure where to post this. I have a job that requires me to travel, which keeps me away from my home church every other Sunday and every Wednesday night. During my first assignment out in AZ, I was able to find a good IFB church as my "home church away from home." At my current assignment, I have not found a church. There are many Baptist churches here, but most are SBC. I attended two different IFB churches since being here....neither one seemed right for varying reasons. After contacting my pastor, he offered to "Skype" me into our services. This has worked very well until this current trip (due to wifi issues at the hotel where I stay). We will gi…

A week ago tomorrow I had cataract surgery, & spent 3 days in Shreveport & around the VA hospital. I want to mention something the wife and I have observed & put to the test. For the most part black people around the VA are friendlier than white people, we 1st noticed this a few weeks back when checking my eyes and getting an appointment for surgery I just had. So during this time being around the VA hospital we took special notice while trying to speak to everyone, the majority of white people seemed to ignore us, the majority of black people were friendly generally speaking back to us and open to conversation. I'm not saying none of the white people were f…

I read this in my devotion this morning, and absolutely love this prayer. "I call to you, O Lord, from my quiet darkness. Show me your mercy and love. Let me see your face, hear your voice, touch the hem of your cloak. I want to love you, be with you, speak to you and simply stand in your presence. But I cannot make it happen. PRessing my eyes against my hands is not praying, and reading about your presence is not living in it. But there is that moment in which you will come to me, as you did to your fearful disciples, and say, 'Do not be afraid; it is I.' Let that moment come soon, O Lord. And if you want to delay it, then make me patient. Amen." --A Cry for…

Okay so today would have been the 100th b-day of Marshall McLuhan, the Toronto professor that invented the term 'global village'. He also coined the phrase: 'the medium is the message' Seems like he was right that the medium is indeed the message. It's true from a practical point of view. Even if it might not ideally be true from an ethical point of view. Like, for some ppl, TV is an end in itself. Anyway, up here ppl are commemorating his centenary.

A long time back someone on here told me how to set this Bible program so that I could copy and pate out of it to Microsoft Works and it would appear in the font of my choice. And until the Trojan hit my computer on about the 1st of this month and I reformatted my computer I could do this. I might add I also order and installed the latest update CD available from Sword Searcher. I have my Sword Searcher set to Courier New as I did before the Trojan hit, and it is the font I use in my sermon outlines and until now when I would copy and paste from Sword Searcher into my sermon outline it would appear in the Courier New font, but it will no longer do that. I have change …

Well, over the past few weeks I've had to mow the lawn every few days, and I expect to mow it again tonight. However, it's been so dry that it's surprisingly (or maybe not surprisingly) grown so much just recently. We could do with some rain, anyway.

Hello OB world. I know I have been MIA as of late as things have been really busy for me. Thank you to all of you that continue to be a part of this wonderful community. The reason for this announcement is to let you know that we will be preforming an upgrade on the software that our community uses. This new upgrade will include a cleaner/simpler look and some new features. I will start the upgrade either today or tomorrow. If you log in and get error messages, that means that I am currently running the upgrade script. Hopefully the upgrade should not take long. Thank you all for taking part in this great community, I look forward to meeting you all someday in glor…

Well, it really has been sunbathing and swimming weather lately; my wife and I keep using the pool. Make the most of it while it all lasts, I guess. Funny how in some parts of North America the summer seems to last three or four months and the winter eight or nine months.... While the sun is with us, anyway, use it! But the cycle of the seasons goes round, itself a tribute to God's Creatorial faithfulness.
