Another post/poll (lying) made me wonder about this question. We understand sin and our GOD are at opposite extremes. The supreme person of eternity cannot look upon sin. I can only imagine what sin's nearness to God might be like, cataclysm might hold a rough description.

Could you offer an example, personal or borrowed, for illustrating the huge burden Jesus Christ bore on the cross at Calvary for our sin..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................s ?

I don't know if this fits what you are thinking of, but one thing that always bring this to light for me is John's reaction to seeing Jesus when He appears to him when he is to write the book of Revelation.

In Revelation 1:12-17 we see John's reaction to turning around and looking upon the risen, fully glorified Son of God.

Remember, John was among the closest of Jesus' friends when He walked the earth. However, upon seeing the full holiness of Christ, John was dropped to the ground as if dead. Certainly his own sinfulness in the presence of Jesus was part of what dropped him to the ground.

I always think about this, that if the mighty apostle John reacted in such a manner, how much more would sinful me fall down as dead in the presence of our perfectly holy God!

This also reminds me of Isaiah when he encounted God and cried out that he was a man of unclean lips and so greatly saw his sinfulness in the company of holy God!

There have been a few times in my life as I've been praying that I've been overwhelmed by the fact that MY sins were felt by Christ on the cross and that MY sins are part of the reason Jesus had to suffer and sacrifice Himself. I'm not a crier, but during those times my eyes filled with tears.

It staggers me to think that Jesus felt each and every one of my sins upon Him as He hung upon that cross. When I think of this it really sorrows me that even after being born again I yet sin.:icon_sad:

Considering such can be a great motivator to pursue personal holiness as Scripture commands. Our God sets a very high standard for us to pursue; "Be ye holy, for I am holy".

A description our pastor gives when some people think they are "good" (whether saved or unsaved) is that if we only commit 3 sins a day (and that would be a VERY GOOD day), that means we commit 1,095 sins a year. Over fifty years that would be 54,750 sins! That's a lot of sin before a holy God.

Now consider, most of us will commit a whole lot more than that over the course of our lives. Likely as not, our sins number in the hundreds of thousands by the time we get passed middle age. WOW! And Christ had to bear each and every one of those sins; He FELT them; He was separated from God the Father by these very sins of MINE!

"My God, my God, why has thou forsaken me?"

I don't think we can even comprehend the horrible vastness of this.

Thank God for His mercy and grace!!!
