hmmm...
I was hoping to see a reaction to the prayer by someone here.

[offtopic]I didn't watch the inauguration, but I did manage to see the clip of the guy waving the Terrible Towel, which I thouroughly enjoyed.[/offtopic]

Myself included. There was much talk about the Warren prayer before he made it but I've heard very little about his actual prayer. That's why I posted this article by Chuck Norris to see what others thought.

What's the "terrible towel"? :puzzled:

I had to listen to the prayer a few times to catch all the muslim phrases and lets all get along style of the purpose driven pope. At first I liked it but then the more I listened to it the more it bothered me. Some of the phrases about God were out of the koran and the way he ended it, "the one who changed my life" seemed to me to say this is the way for me. The Lord's prayer was a nice touch though. Rick Warren needs to see that the people he wants to yoke with hate him. The sodomite priest Robinson was apalled at Warren's pick, but Warren thought it was great he was there. Warren just doesn't understand that the world hates Jesus and those who want to follow His word.

It seems to me Warren is trying to straddle the fence. On the one hand he holds some good biblical doctrine but on the other he seems to crave popularity and acceptance. Rather than boldly speaking the truth in love, he seems to speak a bit of truth and then attempt to surround it with politically correct flowers so as not to offend anyone.

The fact of the matter is that for some folks, there is no way to present the Gospel to them without offending them and they NEED to be offended. They don't need to hear Jesus called by the name the Koran uses, which is a version of the name only used by Muslims; Muslims who have converted to Christianity don't use that name; they need to hear the truth, that Jesus IS the Son of God and Jesus IS the ONLY way to heaven.

I get the point Chuck is trying to make in his article, and by today's standards I suppose Warrens prayer would seem to be almost radical. However, I can't help but believe that had Spurgeon or Moody been giving that prayer, or even someone like Shelton Smith or one of our fine pastors here, that the Gospel would have been much more clearly put forth and there would have been no question at all that the prayer was directed to the God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ, the living Son of God.
