Members LAF Posted October 13, 2007 Members Posted October 13, 2007
WOW!! Scripture again comes to fruition (James 5:16). The Pastor (HAC church) came by unannounced (i was nappin too  ). He said he wanted to let us know that Baptism was necessary for consistency purposes. He said he'd take a paper from like faith and practice church but like y'all said we are coming from a non denom. He also gave me a chance to give him the 3rd degree. He explained to me what he thought repentance was (surprisingly it was a different answer than what Hyles was famous for giving), that while he was loyal to Bro Hyles he didn't agree with all his sermons (although agreed with him in Hyles biblical principles). So at this point i am not 100% certain that we're gonna call this home. But, its looking a little more likely. I will tell y'all this much. I was surprised that he speaks for 4 people: 1.John Rice (sword of the Lord) 2.Hyles 3.Schaap and 4.C.H. Spurgeon I was pretty impressed. I've heard Sword of the Lord mentioned he before (can't remember if it was a good report or not but..........) Again, thanks for lifting us up and helping me carry a burden i was crumbling under. I am still nervous and to a measure uncertain. But, I don't know just where thats comin' from. I love y'all so much thanks.........
I am curious what he said about repentance ,I know many HAC grads and what they say about such things . Quote

So finally I said "so what you are saying is that repentance requires a behavior change right. He agreed. He really stammered and it appeared that i put him on the spot. But if i recall correctly it jibed with what i have read and currently agree with. Don't get me wrong (I know how bad this sounds) I am keeping my ears W I D E open. If it even appears as though the pastor is preaching something that counters scripture and sounds like someone else's sermon, I will call him to the carpet. I am not going to allow anyone to mislead my family. Quote

Members churchmouse7 Posted October 14, 2007 Members Posted October 14, 2007 I hope you find a church home soon. I have prayed for God to give you direction on this. My pastor graduated from HAC actually and I have been a member of the church for almost 10 years. I know that what I have been taught about repentance is that it is turning from what you believed would take you to Heaven and turning to Christ for salvation. My son was involved in another church at one point and they taught that it is a turning from sin and to have a sorrow for your sin. I'll be honest I have been a little confused. I know when I trusted Christ as my Saviour I was sorry for my sin and I also realized what I was thinking would take me to Heaven wouldn't and that I needed to turn to Jesus for salvation. I hope you will have your questions answered by these different churches and make a good decision. In Christ Quote
