What's it all about? It is pointed out by Jesus in the surrounding chapters that people of the OT have had faith even though they were given a lot less than the people around Him, and I can understand that argument. But here He seems to be talking about the truth being 'hidden' from those who are cautious. What does He mean?

He is saying a great deal of mental understanding does not help the heart understand in the least. The Pharisees where very learned men, and most of his disciples were "unlearned and ignorant men" acording to scripture. Yet very few of the pharisees understood the truth. Their "knowledge" that they thought they had puffed them up and caused them to miss the real truth...

"1 Corinthians 1:26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:"

While you are at it see all of I Corinthians 1:18-31
