You'll need to turn on the Closed Captioning if you want to read in English, while listening.

Its worth it.

I had a couple of pastor friends of mine listen to this song. Yes, it's a catchy tune, but, though the song does mention the name of God, to them, and I have to agree with them, it seemed like it was taken somewhat lightly/in vain, and the song had nothing to do with Christianity.

@BrotherTony   I appreciate your opinion, and those of your pastor friends, whatever that means.

You are welcome to name the chruches that your "pastor friends" rule, so that the members here can check out what is what....

And also.

I recall that many years ago when i was a baby believer, and i listened to "christian" music, .. i was very dogmatic, as this is always the "new believer", mind, .. and if the song didnt have the world "Jesus" in it, in every line, then i wondered how it could be considered " Christian".. .So, i do understand your Thinking.... @BrotherTony.

Now However, im a mature believer, and ive been teaching Pauline Theology since '1991... And along the way ive learned that regarding music, = lyrics, some people write about the New Birth experience, in a more obtuse way, more veiled, as for them this is a higher level of songcraft and "art".

Let me show you what i mean..

Now Jon's Lyrics are all about the old man of sin dying, and the new creation in Christ, becoming him... And he relates this to a "desert in bloom" and a Butterfly leaving the  "chrysalis" (Thats a cocoon).... .

Now let me reveal some of the lyrics to you, and  you can explain them to your "pastor friends'>

Notice..

"""""My broken history decomposes
But it's a part of me that's pushing up roses"""""

Now see that?   The "broken history decomposes" .. that is the old man who is crucified with Christ.... its gone and we are to "reckon it dead" KJV.....

And Jon writes..... "it's a part of me, that is pushing up roses".... .so, that means its dead..... and that is to "reckon the old man dead".

So, see how Jon is using very figurative (symbolic)  language to describe Paul's Theology?

Notice this verse...

""""I see the chrysalis going through changes
But every transformation comes in phases""""

So, here Jon is writing symbolically again, and these "transformations" are how the Believer Grows in Grace, or as Paul teaches.. "is changed from Glory to Glory"... KJV

Now @BrotherTony.. let me give you one more....

Jon writes..

""""The light that you seek is seeking you
Let the dead seed go and watch it grow brand-new"""""

See that "light" that is seeking you?   That is "Jesus who is the Light of the World, came into the world to save sinners"... KJV

And "dead Seed"...

Well, that is "FAITH"< being explained as dead seed..  And why?  ?Its because all seed is dead, until its made alive .

And our FAITH, is just a feeling, and a hope, and a trust, until   our "Faith is counted as Rightesounes", KJV.

See that?? That is God taking our faith (seed) and making it COME ALIVE....

And what is "NEW"... ???   """That is the NEW Creation in Christ."""...KJV

So, as im showing you... Jon's lyrics are very profound and symbolic... and if you own a KJV< you might notice that Jesus often spoke enormous Truths, as veiled parables and symbolic stories.

And often, smart and mature believers, who write songs, do this as well, and its good for us to consider their lyrics, as often they can give us a more panoramic (Spiritual/Discerning) view, vs, a closed minded one.

Well, I guess comprehension is NOT your strong suit. Thank you for clarifying that for me.

Old ploy...care to try again?

Apparently you understood nothing. Again, comprehension is a good thing. I'm far from a "baby" Christian, and I have dealt with music for most of my 62 years. I have nowhere intimated that Jesus had to be mentioned in every line. I did however mention that the use of "God" in the song was in the form of common slang among the world.

Having written music for many years I am sure I know as much or more about music, lyrics and composition than you. As to your "maturity" as a Christian, if you have to continuously place yourself on a pedestal looking down on others shows you have no humility, and definitely no business telling others anything until you remove that huge log from your own eye. And really, again with the worship of Paul... I have been preaching and teaching since the middle 70s, and 42 years of that in churches across the country.

Brother Tony said:This song was so vaguely worded with no true spiritual leaning, just like most of the CCM of the last 50 years. It could have very easily been sung by some country music artist here in Nashville. My baby brother has been in the entertainment industry for the last 30 years in Cincinnati. He would dissect this song in a heartbeat as just another "feel good, no message" song that it is...at least when it comes to trying to put it forth as a Christian song.

As has been told you by another here, we are to earnestly contend for the faith and not let "a little leaven" enter.

Have a nice day.

And ive noted that according to your posts to me...  being honest along with bible study is not yours.

Want to prove it again?

Then fire away.

If that is true, then its interesting that you had no idea what Jon Foreman was writing about in his Song "Desert in Blood".

]This is why i had to explain it to you, as you were so confused by the lyrics that you had to find some "pastors" to try to figure it out.

I'm well aware of what was being expected. I've been 100 percent honest. I can't say the same of you. This is the third FALSE accusation directed towards me, and believe me the next one will go much further than just between you and I. That's a promise.

----------------------Here are the LYRICS...//.........-

There's a name that levels mountains
It carves out highways through the sea
And I've seen its power unravel battles
Right in front of me ..

Oh, there's a faith that stands defiant
It sends Goliath to his knees
And I've seen as praise unravelled shackles
Right off my feet (come on)

'Cause that's the power of Your Name
And just a mention makes a way
Giants fall and strongholds break
And there is healing
And that's the power that I claim
It's the same that rolled the grave
And there's no power like the mighty Name of Jesus ..
(No power like the Name)
(Come on, there's a hope)

Oh, there's a hope that calls out courage
And in the furnace unafraid
The kind of daring expectation
That every prayer I make
Is on an empty grave

And that's the power of Your Name
Just a mention makes a way
Giants fall and strongholds break
And there is healing
That's the power that I claim
It's the same that rolled the grave
And there's no power like the mighty Name of Jesus
There's no power like the mighty Name of Jesus

'Cause I see You taking ground
Oh, I see You press ahead
And Your power is dangerous to the enemy's camp
You still do miracles
You will do what You said
For You're the same God now as You've always been
Your Spirit breaking out
Your kingdom moving in
Your victory claims the ground that the enemy had

You still do miracles
And You will do what You said
For You're the same God now as You've always been

And that's the power of Your Name
Just a mention makes a way
Giants fall and strongholds break
And there is healing
Oh, that's the power that I claim
It's the same that rolled the grave
And there's no power like the mighty Name of Jesus
There's no power like the mighty Name of Jesus
There's no power like the mighty Name of Jesus

----------------Here are the Lyrics....

-

You were the Word at the beginning
One with God the Lord Most High
Your hidden glory in creation
Now revealed in You our Christ

Chorus 1
What a beautiful Name it is
What a beautiful Name it is
The Name of Jesus Christ my King
What a beautiful Name it is
Nothing compares to this
What a beautiful Name it is
The Name of Jesus

Verse 2
You didn’t want heaven without us
So Jesus You brought heaven down
My sin was great Your love was greater
What could separate us now

Chorus 2
What a wonderful Name it is
What a wonderful Name it is
The Name of Jesus Christ my King
What a wonderful Name it is
Nothing compares to this
What a wonderful Name it is
The Name of Jesus
What a wonderful Name it is
The Name of Jesus

Bridge
Death could not hold You
The veil tore before You
You silence the boast of sin and grave
The heavens are roaring
The praise of Your glory
For You are raised to life again

You have no rival
You have no equal
Now and forever God You reign
Yours is the kingdom
Yours is the glory
Yours is the Name above all names

Chorus 3
What a powerful Name it is
What a powerful Name it is
The Name of Jesus Christ my King
What a powerful Name it is
Nothing can stand against
What a powerful Name it is
The Name of Jesus
