Govt. Issues Violent Right Wing Extremism Warning

Weeks after an official state report on militia activity classified groups that oppose abortion and illegal immigration as domestic terrorists, a separate federal government document warns against right wing extremist violence by Americans who share similar concerns.

A new Homeland Security report warns of the possibility of violence by unnamed right wing extremists worried about illegal immigration, abortion, firearms restrictions, the loss of U.S. sovereignty and increasing federal power. The 10-page report ("Right-wing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment") classifies war veterans as particular threats.

"Returning veterans possess combat skills and experience that are attractive to right-wing extremists," the report states. The concern, according to Homeland Security officials, is that right wing extremists will attempt to recruit and radicalize veterans in order to boost their violent capacities.

Published by the Department of Homeland Security?s Office of Intelligence and Analysis, the document also implies that the election of an African American president and his expected policy changes are proving to be a driving force for right ring extremist recruitment and radicalization.

Just last month a Missouri State law enforcement report (?The Modern Militia?), with information partially gathered by federal law enforcement agencies, listed Christian conservatives and groups that oppose abortion and illegal immigration as domestic terrorists. Incredibly, the document completely omits domestic terror groups associated with fundamentalist Muslims or those connected to liberals such as extreme environmentalists.

Gov't views opponents of abortion, illegal immigration as possible threats
Associated Press and OneNewsNow - 4/15/2009 8:35:00 AM

WASHINGTON, DC - Department of Homeland Security officials have issued a report which links people with pro-life, anti-illegal immigration views, teachers of end-time prophecies, and veterans of war with "right-wing extremist" groups.

In an intelligence assessment issued to law enforcement last week, Homeland Security officials said there was no specific information about an attack in the works by right-wing extremists. But the agency warns that an extended economic downturn with real estate foreclosures, unemployment, and an inability to obtain credit could foster an environment for extremists to recruit members who may not have been supportive of these causes in the past.

The latest assessment started making its way into the mainstream press after conservative blogs got wind of the analysis. In the unclassified report -- "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment" -- the agency warns that imposing new restrictions on firearms and returning military veterans who have difficulties assimilating back into their communities could lead to terror groups or individuals attempting to carry out attacks. The returning war veterans have skills and experience that are appealing to right-wing groups looking to carry out an attack, according to the report.

The report says right-wing extremism in the United states can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily "hate-oriented" and those that are mainly anti-government, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority or rejecting government authority entirely.

According to the Homeland Security document, right-wing extremism "may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as abortion or immigration."

The report goes on to say that "many right-wing extremists are antagonistic toward the new presidential administration and its perceived stance on a range of issues, including immigration and citizenship, the expansion of social programs to minorities, and restrictions on firearms ownership and use."

The Homeland Security report also makes reference to the rise of right-wing extremism in the 1990s and says factors which enhanced the movement were opposition to things such as abortion and same-sex "marriage."

It also says "antigovernment conspiracy theories and 'end times' prophecies could motivate extremist individuals and groups to stockpile food, ammunition, and weapons."

It still amazes me how so many people who should have known better either supported or sat silent as Bush created the unconstitutional, unnecessary and exceedingly dangerous Department of Homeland Security.

If he's got to group people together those who are more conservative (not far right wing either), I'm glad our ex military share the list. I was kind of curious where they would stand. I thought they would stand on the more conservative side, but now I know and am thankful for it. I know some people that are in the military have problems just like anyone else, but I have seen some very strong christians sign up, because they are very convicted about serving their country and am glad of it. Then they can reach our military when people need it or when fear of death or being close to it comes. God is good!

Yeah, I'm glad, too!! My husband commented that BO is going to NEED that big civilian militia he's been talking about if he keeps insulting our military--it could cost him their loyalty and respect.

I believe you'll find most of us retired and more than likely most of the current active duty military on the list once. Many retired and active duty on the list twice :amen:

I don't think these reports are talking about conservative Christians as we think of them. I think the subjects of the report are right wing militaristic organizations that buy up guns and blow up abortion clinics. Sadly, many of those such organizations cover themselves with a thin veil of Christianity to justify their violence. Additionally remorseful is the fact that they prey on our vulnerable young war veterans. Even one of the Oklahoma City bombers was ex-military.

Unfortunately, I think they ARE talking about conservative Christians (as we see them) and lumping them together with those extreme right wing militaristic organizations that you were talking about. And yes, Timothy McVey (not sure it I spelled that right) was ex-military, but he was also "given the boot" when he tried to get into special forces.....they realized something wasn't "right", so it is unfair to point to him as an example of "why we should keep an eye on our veterans for being potential terrorists". In fact, in one of the video clips I posted earlier, they discussed the fact that many homegrown terrorists have been from the extreme left and just yesterday I saw a headline that said the FBI's most wanted terrorist was an American left-wing extremist they believed was hiding in some other country....apparently, he tried to blow up a couple of different businesses associated with animal testing or something. If I can find the article again, I'll try and post it.

I have been really surprised how few Christians are offended by that homeland security memo, or for that matter..........how few of them even KNOW about it's existence. Wake up people--even our military knows an insult when they hear one!

Of a truth they are speaking of us and they are trying to link us with actual criminals, terrorists and other unsavory sorts so as to make it easier for them to eventually legislate against us and target us.
