I am not pretending to be spiritual and we don't watch trash.

If you were not watching trash you wouldn't need the filter.

There are a few programs that don't have foul language. If you only watched those, there would be no need of a filter. The filter is for the express purpose of filtering trash from trashy shows.

Do people have to say a bad word when the hit their fingernail with a hammer, get their finger caught in a door, stump their toe?

My father was not a church going man, but I never heard him utter one single bad word when he would do such a thing I spoke of above. I don't either.

But if you hang around with people who do, you probably will to. In moments of pain, in moments of excitement, a person will speak their heart.

I know many will refute this and say I don't know what I'm talking about.

I commend Seth, he is trying to keep junk out of his mind, if you don't let it in, it want be there to come out.

Many times our happiness is determined by what we don't do and what we keep out of our minds. We need to gurad our minds.

Mat 12:34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

Mat 12:35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

Mat 12:36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

Mat 12:37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

Jam 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

Jam 3:9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

Jam 3:10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

I just can't picture Jesus standing in line to pay to go into a movie house to set and watch a movie.
I can't see Him setting and watching many, many TV shows.
I can't see Him reading a romance novel.
I can't picture Him looking thru any of those women magazines.
I can't see Him watching a sporting event where females have much flesh showing, ice skating, tennis, and many more such things.

Ask your self, am I really being Christ like? Them give God an honest answer.

John R. Rice wrote a book back in the 40's or 50's about going to the movies, I have it here somewhere but can't find it. The principles he gave in that book for not watching movies still stand today, and I think it will show you that TV is no better.

We have had so much stuff pushed into our brain that we are so desensitized that we will enjoy watching, reading, or looking at things that should never enter our brains.

According to your logic everyone who uses an online filter is guilty of looking at pornography. The online filter then is for the express purpose of filtering trash from trashy web sites. Conclusion: You sir, if you use an online filter, are guilty of looking at porn sites. Because of your guilty conscience you find that you must protect yourself from yourself!

You are avoiding the obvious. A TV filter is for one thing only, filtering trash from trashy programs. If the programs were not trashy, they wouldn't contain trash that needed filtering.

TV Guardian should not be used to justify watching filthy programs, but would come in handy when watching a show where they tried to slip certain words in. Even the news needs filtering some times. After you change the channel it is too late, the language was already was sent out.

You are also avoiding the obvious. If a TV filter is for one thing only, filtering trash from trashy programs, then an online filter is for one thing only, filtering trash from the trashy internet. If the internet was not trashy, then it wouldn't contain trash that needs filtering.

Jesus said it best: By thy words thou shalt be justified and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

I agree.

I can only conclude that the ones who have spoken against having the TV Guardian either do not watch any TV, videos, ect. or enjoy listening to foul language in their homes. It would appear that some have hardened their hearts and seared their consciences with a hot iron. It baffles my mind how any professing Christian could condemn the use of a device that eliminates foul language. It is like condemning the use of an online filter that eliminates porn sites.

:ot: When I shared how Christians viewed the TV on OB with my hubby...he said, "The majority of people on OB are on the computer, instead...looking all over Internet sites, too." He wasn't being disrespectful at all, he was merely pointing out that both the TV and the Internet can be used inappropriately. It is how you use these tools that matters. I really don't see a problem with this TV Guardian at all. Afterall, are we IFB's supposed to live in seclusion? BTW, he watches cowboy movies, golf, and educational shows.

I am avoiding nothing. I don't need an internet filter either. My internet use is very restricted as is my TV watching. If a program has content that needs to be filtered I don't see the benefit in bothering to watch it, so I don't.

John, I don't have no type of filter on my computer nor TV either, though I have heard of them.

On the TV about the only thing I watch is Fox News, but most of the time I'm not setting in front of it, but hear it in the back ground.

Linda watches food cannel and a couple of more channels.

I heard a pastors sermons once, he was talking about people who could not resist watching porn at home and or in a motel when they are on the road.

He said the way to keep this temptation away from you, is not to stay at a motel that has prom available in their rooms. At home, don't have cable, satellite TV service nor internet service. I agree with this pastor.

Now, I can see the value of having some type of filter if children are in your house, its so hard to monitor them every moment, in fact you can't. the right filter would probably handle that.

But if some people want to use these filters I have no problem with it.

I might add, I came across a web site for people who are addicted to porn. Suppose to be a Christian web site. I read many of the post to kind of get a feel for it. I don't know, maybe they help people, but I did not have a good feeling about the site. If someone wants the site PM me and I'll try to get it to you.

This is how I believe Jerry#'s. I invested a lot of money in VHS tapes for my son when he was younger. He was restricted from the TV when it came to a majority of shows.

The professional sports are what I have a "real" problem with...and, the news. Athough, I think it was you that mentioned Fox News...and, they are not bad at all. :thumb

Living w/o a TV would be so wonderful for me. :smile

I do not watch professional sports watch, I just can see why a Christian would. The commercials they have, the sponsors they have, plus professional football competes with Jesus' Churches on Sunday. And look at the extermly poor example most players of professional sports sets for our children.

A few years ago on a Sunday night after church service i visited a family who had lost a loved one, it was on Super Bowl night, young children and many of the adults were gathered around the TV watching the intermission show.

That is one reason many children have took the wrong path.
