1Timothy115,

Many thanks for the the posting of the American Family Association's, 'Anti-Christian Bigotry Map.' I appreciate it very much.

I think it would be good if all of the brethren looked at the website as it is very useful information in this day and age. Keep up the good work!

At first I thought it was strange how few of these groups were located from the western central U.S. to the west coast. Then, the thought occurred, why work where you already have a strong beachhead. I would say from Iowa to the Pacific Ocean most of the work is done for these groups. What say you?

The closest one on the map, to us, is Tallahassee; about 90 miles. But we had some filthy-mouthed editor at our local newspaper, which is a branch from a larger company, who sicced some group on our town trying to get the manger scene removed from the lawn at city hall. That was Christmas before last, our mayor refused, and the scene was displayed in the same place again this year. :)

Most are organized in and around major cities. The rural areas, including the very rural West, tend to have fewer around; and when they do it's centered in a city.

It's much easier for these groups to find targets and get quick and easy media coverage in cities than in rural areas. The city court systems also tend to be friendly toward such than do the more rural court systems.

It seems to be greatly based upon convenience. Why try to establish a group in a rural county with only 40,000 people scattered over many square miles when you can set up shop in a city with hundreds of thousands or millions of people right there. So much easier to recruit, beg for donations, hold events that will get media coverage, and to find something to take issue with.

The nearest city to me is down at Charleston WV (pop. 50,851) 75 miles south as the crow flies. However, Parkersburg WV (pop. 31,492) just across the river has a 'gay' bar called 'The Other Side' appears to be on a back street. I was surprised Parkersburg is just 15-20 miles away!
